It has made a huge difference in my life. When I forget to take it, I notice significantly higher pain levels.

Strongly Positive

Positive I am a working triathlete and Mg helps me to recover more easily. I somehow seem to have a chronic deficiency (proved by repeated blood tests), so I supplement according to my training load

I recently started following Seth Roberts' blog and QS (and am also a Tim Ferriss body hacking fan). In the past, I've taken supplements such as fish oil, but never previously noticed any clear results (i.e., I'm not a big believer in individual supplements or any "super foods" --I'm a supplement skeptic) I have a form of restless leg syndrome--which for me means I have leg spasms while going to sleep and in the middle of the night that wake me and my spouse up. I've had it for about 2 years (I'm 46) and my father and sister have it. I read about magnesium helping with spasms and restless leg on two separate comments on Seth's blog. I tried a single 300mg capsule of magnesium per day at lunch, as it appeared to be a safe supplement with no down sides that I saw. My restless leg was 99% cured in two days, and has remained so for three weeks. My next step will be to stop supplementing and see if the restless leg/spasms re-occur. I was amazed at the binary, black and white results. While my issue was only indirectly related to sleep quality, I'm curious of the results of this survey. Thanks. pills cause loose stool but baths prevent that....have to kind of experiment since baths aren't always very convenient

Without the magnesium, any calcium supplement I take causes constipation. Not sure why that is. Am considering dropping down to just the magnesium and letting my diet (which contains little to no milk or milk products) give me calcium (e.g., from greens)

Neutral

Hard to tell if it has any effect beyond softer stools. Taking it is based on my reading of the literature.

I had a magnesium deficiency, and was getting cramps and tension headaches. Taking magnesium helped. It also helps with my spastic colon... when I'm under a lot of stress, it can tighten up :), yucky as that sounds, and magnesium helps.

It's easier to fall asleep, sleep feels deeper, I feel more rested, I might need less sleep.

First discovered the importance, benefits and significance of magnesium in the book Protein Power by Dr. Michael Eades. It really improved my mood, my recovering from stress and don't stressing too much in the first place. It gives me a real feeling of calmness, despite that my diet contains lots of beans, dark chocolate and other rich-magnesium foods. I guess this is a strong indication that I was deficient in magnesium. Taken with potassium (either in loads of coconut juice and bananas) I experience a little less cramping on long swims

Started taking when pregnant to assist in muscle aches and sleep and kept using it.

I have found my mood to be increasingly balanced as I increase the magnesium dose. I still have strong intra-day mood swings, but less anxiety/restlessness.

Neutral

It's part of my routine at work, but only if I'm at work and I haven't a good reason to take it, nor have I quantified it. I think this sort of use is more common than you think. I always snack on almonds during the day, which are high in magnesium. I do it because while I was tracking my nutrients I noticed that I NEVER got the recommended amount of magnesium until I started snacking on almonds. I do notice a decreased appetite, but am not sure if it's because of the almonds or not because I also eat a low glycemic diet, so I think it's because of that.

Positive

Neutral

I suspect the Magnesium was intended to benefit as a laxative and diuretic as part of a restrictive diet which caused weight loss and cured symptoms of lethagy and breathlessness. I can't rate the effect on sleep etc as it was several years ago.

Above Average I think there needs to be a section of on and off use that was never regular. I started using magnesium, but it is every couple of days or so, or when I feel tense or something. So that option would probably open up another range of results.

I'm not a good judge of surveys so I'm coming out neutral. If I'm not the only one who mentions night leg spasms or restless leg syndrome, then I guess you could add it as a distinct treatment category in the checklist. Thanks.

Neutral Above Average

Above Average Above Average Excellent Below Average Above Average Neutral You should ask about duration of magnesium use and maybe some other fitness factors (BMI? Hours of exercise per week, miles run per week? Blood pressure?). I've been using magnesium for about a year now, after having gotten serious about running. You could clarify some of the categories and response choices. For instance, use of neutral instead of "average" in the question above. I'm not "neutral"--I found the survey no better and no worse than many surveys. I indicated "neutral," but I had to second-guess you by assuming you meant "average." To me, in this context, "neutral" means "indifferent," or "no opinion." Additionally, I wonder about your question on residence--why are only a few major cities listed? If you have specific interest in those cities, it might make some sense (??). But if you chose those few thinking they would be "samples" of urban behaviour, I think it will not work for that purpose. There are plenty of people who do not officially live in Boston, for instance, but they are part of the Boston urban complex and whether or not they have a Boston mailing address is not to the point. Moreover, with the extremely-facile nature of media these days, the line--in terms of culture--between urban and rural is much blurred and deranged. Okay, I see below your choice of cities had to do with locations of QS groups.

I'm no fan of Adobe, and I don't know how much of the experience was their defaults or your design, but this felt like how an online form 'should' be done.
