What is factoring?
Factoring is the process by which we determine what we multiplied to get the given quantity. Completely factor means you can·t simplify it any more.
What techniques can you used to factor polynomials and in what situation do you use each?
Greatest common factor: Is there a factor that is in common to all the terms? ab + ac = a(b+c) Factoring by grouping: When two of the terms have one factor in common and the other two terms have a factor in common. Then when you factor out what each pair has in common they have the same thing left. 3x2-2x+12x-8 = x(3x-2)+4(3x-2) = (3x-2)(x+4) Factoring quadratic polynomials: When you want to factor a second degree polynomials into two first degree factors. X2+2x-15 = (x+__)(x+__) = (x+5)(x-3)
There are many different methods to use when determining what was multiplied to get a polynomial. The method to should use for any one polynomial depends on what kind of polynomial it is.
