1913 to 1930 2 Rare Gillette Office Knives and Razor ALL MY ITEMS ARE SOLD FOR BEST OFFER

! These are Gillette office knives. Used to open letters and packages. Made from the 1910s through 1930s. Gillette made the blades for them as well. Lots of people don't know tha t Gillette also dabbled in other blade-related offerings aside from shaving razors. In addition to razors and double edge shaving blades, Gillette also made blades for office knives, chisels and scalpels as well as the handles for those blades. Also included is the Original Gillette mar ked razor sheath. It is in very good vintage condition bordered with metal piping. Also included in this package is a 1963 Gillette Super Speed Adjusradle Safety Razor which is in very good vintage condition. It has a small bit of plate loss on the undersi de of the razor, it works correctly, opens and closes as it should and tightens down on the blade as it should. This razor would be great as a daily shaver and has been cleaned and sanitized and is shave ready. The development of the modern scalpel with disposable blade, as we know it tod ay, was largely the result of Mr. King Gillette's invention of the safety razor (patented in 1904). In 1910, the eminent Dr. John B. Murphy of Chicago perfected special handles for both single and double edged razor blades, assuring the surgeon of ready access to a very sharp knife blade. Although Murphy's handles permitted the use of these blades, they were not satisfactory from a tec hnical standpoint. It was Morgan Parker who figured a way to put the blade and handle together w ithout a 3rd part. In 1915, he received a patent on a new 2-piece scalpel, with blade and handle he ld together by overlapping metal parts (Fig. 6). His new 2-piece design provided rigidity and e nabled the exchange of old blades for new after each use. Together with Charles Russell Bar d, Parker formed the Bard-Parker Company and developed a method of cold sterilization that would not dull the blades, as did heat. In 1923, Parker bought out Bard's interest consequent to a disagreement over subcontracting manufacture of the scalpel. (Bard-Parker later became a division of Becton, Dickinson and Company.) The present design of the Rib-Back blade was introduced in 1936. Before the development of the Bard-Parker blade, there were over 350 different kinds of scalpels.
