INTERESTED PARTIES CAMPAIGN FOR PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITY AL CD 6 ASSESSMENT FEBRUARY 13, 2012

This memo summarizes the key findings from a poll of 302 likely Republican primary voters in Alabama’s 6th Congressional District conducted February 6-8, 2012.

Methodology
On behalf of the Campaign for Primary Accountability, Vitale & Associates conducted a study of likely Republican primary voters in Alabama’s 6th Congressional District. Respondents were screened to ensure that they were neither a member of the news media nor a public relations company. The sample for this survey was stratified based on gender, age, and geography. This methodology allows us to minimize post-survey “weighting” which can reduce the reliability of survey results. Respondents were contacted by phone via a live telephone operator interview February 6-8, 2012. The study has a sample size of 302 likely Republican primary voters with a margin of error of ±5.7%.

o

The following are messages that voters could potentially hear about Spencer Bachus during a campaign. Below are two messages read to voters:  Spencer Bachus used millions of dollars from Wall Street to give lavish donations to other Members of Congress and buy his way into the Chairmanship of the House Committee on Financial Services where he will regulate the same Wall Street banks that gave him the money.  Spencer Bachus has taken more than four-hundred and twelve thousand dollars in campaign donations from banks and other institutions that took billions of dollars in taxpayer money through the bailouts Bachus helped to pass. Following the messages, the question was asked, “And, now that you have heard some more information about one of the candidates for Congress, if the Republican primary election for Congress were held today, for whom would you vote for if the candidates were Spencer Bachus, Scott Beason, Al Mickle, Stan Pate, and David Standridge?”  Spencer Bachus 44%  Scott Beason 21%  Al Mickle 3%  Stan Pate 2%  David Standridge 7%  Undecided 23%
