Historical Background
 In 1981 AIDS was first recognized by the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and its cause, HIV, identified in the early 1980s.  The general public thought the disease was rooted through homosexuality and the immoral practice of anal sex.  They also believed that the disease was able to be transmitted through casual contact, people were urged to stay away from homosexuals.

Biographical Info
 When Diana was born she was expected to be a boy and heir to the title Earl of Spencer.  Though born a girl she lived a carefree childhood in her large home which lied on the Sandringham estate.  She went to West Health Girls’ school and then attended Institut Alpin Videmanette (1977), a finishing school in Rougemont, Switzerland.  In 1980 she and the Prince began courting and on February 6, 1981 they became engaged.

Though a great humanitarian, she never received any major awards. She only ever received two awards.
•One was the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II -a high honor bestowed as a mark of personal esteem on titled female members of the British Royal Family for personal service to Queen Elizabeth II. •The second was the Order of the Crown award. -The Order of the Crown is intended for "foreigners who have rendered special service to the Dutch King or his House”
1999- The Diana Award was erected in her honor for young people who display outstanding qualities and contribute to their schools, their communities, and society as a whole.
