facing and accepting major challenge is the only path to greatness

what does it mean to overcome? different for every individual, according to their situation, advantages, disadvantages in life, depending upon what attempting to achieve one thing is certain :

if you desire to achieve something significant, you will face opposition, difficulties, challenge – it will not be easy, or simple, or painless;
there will be a cost to bear

what about greatness? what do we think of by „greatness‟?
Jesus said, ‗if anyone would be great, they must become a slave‘ of his disciples, amazed at what he was doing, he said: “you will do greater works than these” greatness is something God calls us towards; not thinking about how world defines greatness, but what God calls greatness especially considering major challenge of messianic community vocation: blessed to be a blessing to every family on earth

this seminar is about facing and accepting major challenge and help God provides to his covenant people when major challenge we are facing, is a task he has asked us to achieve…

faith established and expanded

thinking of island of land as metaphor for something promised…  first promise represent establishment of ‗beachhead‘ we occupy land just over frontier, by faith in that promise…we stand upon the land... but it still remains to inhabit and rule the land  „word of the Lord‟ which we hear and receive in land will determine our advance, by faith into interior, into territory we want to ‗occupy‘  extent of our vision dictates how far into ‗land‘ we see possibility for advance  the extent of our faith dictates how far into ‗land‘ we actually advance

 Old Testament: Joshua sent spies into the land to see what is was like; as well as the nature of inhabitants, enemies within it  as we advance into land, beyond present frontiers, faith in earlier promises must abide, or what we‘ve attained may fall back into enemy hands  our occupation of promise in faith makes a way for others to follow after us...

a burning bush

Moses was prince of royal household of Pharoah, Egypt after killing Egyptian who had struck one of his countrymen, became frightened, fled Egypt, becoming a shepherd…
 he came to the mountain of God, to Horeb;  the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a fire blazing from the middle of a bush;  he looked and saw that although the bush was flaming with fire, yet the bush was not being burned up;  Moses said, I‘m going to go over and see this amazing sight… when the Lord saw that he had gone over to see, God called to him… — Exodus 3.1-10

Elisha, a mighty prophet within Israel was providing insight into the strategy of a foreign king, so that Israel could avoid being attacked… once king realised, he sent out a great army to surround the city in which Elisha resided, intending to capture and interrogate the prophet next morning Elisha‘s servant saw the great army and was afraid, Elisha spoke:  don‘t be afraid – those who are with us outnumber those who are with them!  Elisha prayed, Lord, I ask you to open his eyes, so that he can see,

 then the Lord opened the young man‘s eyes and he saw: there before him, all around Elisha,

victory in temptation  God is faithful to his word and to his compassionate nature and  he can be trusted not to let you be tempted and tried … beyond your ability and strength of resistance and power to endure but  with the temptation he will always also provide the way out—the means of escape to a landing place—

 that you may be capable and strong and powerful, patiently to bear up under it
— 1 Corinthians 10.13
