TIPS FOR FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY
A flash picture is a better picture . . . besides, with flash you're sure of every shot. Here are some tips on using flashbulbs.

Shooting Blacle and White Pictures With G ..E Flashbulbs
Use clear G·E flashbulbs with any popular black and white film. Indoors, flash gives the right amount of light so you're sure of good pictures. In daylight, flash puts detail in those murky shadows . . . for better pictures.

Shooting Color With Clear G ..E Flashbulbs
Any dear G·E flashbulb (except SM) balances with type "F" color film. SM bulbs may be used with "Tungsten" or professional type "A" film. without filter.

Weak batteries cause 90% of all flash failures. Some batteries are so weak they won't flash a bulb . . . others burn out the tiny filament without igniting the foil. When this happens, even a new i,?attery won't flash the bulb. ,j Use one of the new G·E test lamps to check your battery and flashholder.

Shootins Color With Blue G-E Flashbulbs
Use blue G·E flashbulbs with any Daylight type color film, indoors . . . outdoors ... day or night. They are used either as the sale source of light or as supplementary illumination in daylight.

G·E test lamps warn you when batteries are low or when there's trouble anywhere in the flashing circuit. "EAC" fits the socket of flashholders using No. 5 type flashbulbs, "EEK" fits the miniature M2 type socket, and "B)Y" fits AG·1 sockets.

Flash With Kodacolor
Use any clear G-E flashbulb with all indoor shots on Kodacolor, also for pictures outdoors at night ... but use a blue G·E flashbulb in daylight.

II The Camera Has Been Idle ••• work the shutter a few times before loading film and bulh. This will dean the flash contacts for better synchronization.

Focal Plane •• " The new G·E PowerSprite AG·l & AG-lB and PowerMites M3, M3B, M5 & M5B flashbulbs synchronize like focal plane flashbulbs (at any shutter speed) with many late model 35mm focal plane Cameras. To try them with your camera ... set your synchronizer for focal plane flashbulbs ... then determine the exposure from the Guide Number tables printed below.
NOTE: shutter Guide Number tables printed on packages of these lamps are for front synchronizers and are not applicable to focal plane synchronization.

Three of the G·E flashbulbs in this section (No.6, 6B, 31) are especially designed for split second synchronizarion with focal plane cameras. They have a special long peak flash which gives even exposure as the shutter crosses the negative.

NOTE: Many miniature focal plane cameras have synchronizer adjustments which permit the use of other types of flashbulbs (such as the M3; MS, AG.1). See instructions with camera. No.. 6This flashbulb is designed to synchronize with
small focal plane cameras up to 214' x 314" size. It is ideal for pictures requiring shutter speeds of 1/100th second or faster. The number 6 has the same physical dimensions as the G·E No.5.

They feature intense light of very short duration and the modeling light (inside the flash tube helix) allows exact positioning of lights prior to exposure. Although the appearance of these lamps is similar, the FT-S03 has a quartz helix which withstands higher energy loadings.

(Pulsed Xenon Arc) lamps are primarily designed to provide better copy board lighting in the Graphic Arts industry. This recent G. E. development reduces power consumption, increases production, and lowers maintenance costs. However, PXA's are also finding many uses in allied fields which use photo sensitive products in preparation of printed materials. They may even be used with regular photographic film (B & W or Color) for stroboscopic effects . . . they pulse 120 Bashes per second @ 1/1000th sec. per flash.

GENERAL PURPOSE FLASHTUBES. The FT-220 is typical
of General Electric's general purpose flashtubes. The highly efficient built-in reflector makes it easy to mount and use. Its 2000-volt design makes it ideally suited for laboratory and other experimental applications. General Electric also has a line of special purpose flashtubes for photographic or non-photographic applications. .. Doe "Vniflood," General Electric's original Quartz-Iodine movie-light development, does the work of a multiple lamp movie bar ... does it easier, more efficiently, and longer. UniHood's 16 hours rated life is four times longer than regular movie lights and. more important, UniHood retains original brightness and color temperature throughout life. Its horizontal 30° x 400 beam spread is the same shape as the movie frame. External Sealed. Beam type enclosure protects the reflector and Quartz. Iodine lamp from contamination.
DW A . . . Economical, new movie-light . . . made exactly like Uniflood ... except that DW A features a rugged, premium quality filament (and large col. lector grid) . . . instead of the revolutionary QuartzIodine light source. Its rated 8 hour life is twice as long as ordinary movie-lights. DW A also has a horizontal 300 x 40° beam spread.

A 375-watt medium beam lamp designed especially for use on movie light bars. Pours twice as much light into the picture area as regular reflector photofloods, without overloading home lighting circuits. This lamp is used mainly for still photography because its smooth, broad beam (90°) is about equal to a No. 1 photoflood in a very good reflector. It is fine for portraits, table tops or any general photographic lighting purpose. This is a reflector spot lamp which gives a narrow (20°) beam of almost eight times the intensity ofDXC. It is ideal for use as a spOt, or back light in movies or still pictures. A special 750-watt photographic lamp designed for high speed movies ..• in black and white or color. Two of these lamps, one on each side of the camera and about IS" from the subject, pour about 75,000 footcandles of light on a 4/1 x 4" area. This allows color movies to be taken at SOOO frames per second or faster. Lamp must be used in a porcelai n socket. A 30-volt reflector flood lamp designed as a portable light source for television or newsreel cameramen. It operates on batteries and may be used on location. Since it needs no reflector it is light and convenient.

Discerning amateur and professional photographers have long preferred G-E enlarging lamps because their smooth light, distribution makes sharp, professionallooking enlargements a matter-of-fact operation. When the enlarger is equipped with a G-E lamp you know you have the best possible distribution of the right color light ... whether you print black and white or color.

There is a special General Electric lamp for every enlarger. It makes no difference whether it is a vertical or horizontal enlarger ... or whether it has a condenser, diffusion, or combination lamphouse system. Certain G·E enlarging lamps are clear, others are white or inside frosted, and three are circular fluorescent . . . two white and one blue.

lamps ... DEF, DKR & DLS .... Designed specifically for. 8 mm movie projectors, these 21-volt, 150-watt lamps provide brilliant screen intensity yet subject the film [0 only one-half the usual operating temperature. The most unusual feature. of_these lamps is the internal dichroic reflector which must be: 1. A precisely formed glass mirror 2. Which reflects visible light 3. But transmits infrared (heat) rays to the projector's cooling system 4. To provide cooler film proj ection with equivalenr Iight intensi ty. RigiL quality controls are essential to assure optimum performance from these remarkable lamps . . . for example: 1. The multiple layer dichroic filter coating ... which transmits heat while reflecting the light ... is applied to the glass, one layer at a time; each layer is approximately 1/3,000,000" thick. 2. The contour of the reflector must not deviate more than 1/1000" from specifications. 3. Exact. positioning of the filament in the reflector is mandatory. No filament misalignment or variation in filament-to-reflector distance can be tolerated. General Electric takes such exacting tolerance requirements in stride since strict quality control standards have always played a major part in maintainin g General Electric's position of Ieadershi pin the industry. Other quality features built into these lamps are: 1. The CC-6 filament ... compact in size for maximum screen brilliance ... rugged in strength for better resistance to shipping and operational shocks. 2. New ceramic inserts insulate the leads from the reflector ... to give added mechanical strength at stress points. 3. The sturdy support assembly ... bolstered by two curved metal bars ... permanently positions the reflector exactly on the projector's optical axis. 4. The easy-to-seat 4-pin base is carefully aligned to the reflectorsupport combination . . . for precise prefocus, The G·E DEF, DKR, and DLS concept eliminates the need for reflectors and condensers in modern 8 rnm movie projector designs. They also permit the use of more economical cooling systems, or in some instances, no cooling system at all . . . because the dichroic reflector eliminates half of the heat from the projector's film gate. NOTE: OEF is an exact replacement for the hotter burning DCA lamp and DLS exactly replaces the old fashioned DLG lamp in all old or new equipment. Replace with a G-E dichroic reflector lamp and banish all worries about film sticking, buckling, or fading due to excessive heat. Bul Remember: DCA & DLG may not be substituted in projectors designed for dichroic reflector lamps because ordinary lamps concentrate too much heat on the film gate. .

For Example: Take General Electric's new trio of dichroic reflector

FOR LAMPS NOT LISTED IN THIS SECTION SEE YOUR G-E SUPPLIER OR G-E PHOTOLAMP PRICE SCHEDULE

This section is designed to give you a handy reference to the specific lamp for any particular projector. The next four pages alphabetically list the G-E lamps and specifications for the projector-lamp guide section immediately following.

Tips On Using The Proiedion Lamp Guide
Choose the Proper Category. Projection
equipment is grouped by type and application. Categories include 8mm Projectors, 16mm Projectors, Miniature Slide Projectors, Glass Slides & Opaque Copy Projectors, Sound lamps for Movie Projectors, and Viewing & Editing Equipment. by projector model. The name of the manufacturer will not usually be listed in the left column. For example: A National Color Tru-Hue projector would be listed under "Tru-Hue." The second column shows the model number, the third gives the manufacturer and the fourth lists the lamp or lamps recommended for this specific projector.

Select the Projector by Model Name and Number. All projectors are listed alphabetically

To Identify and Order Lamps. The three letter A.S.A. lamp code is all that is needed to completely
identify and order G·E Photolamp projection and sound lamps. The complete listing of lamps on pages 28 & 29 is arranged in alphabetical order by code. Complete specifications are included with the lamps on these pages. For current prices see the "G-E Photolamp Price Schedule."

Proiedion lamp Tips
10 and 15 Hour Projection Lamps are Brighter. Projection
lamps are highly efficient light sources designed to concentrate the maximum amount of light through a projector's optical system The life rating of these lamps range from ten to fifty hours. Some new projection lamps, such as the Gold Top "CAR", are designed with a fifteen hour life rating, to provide high screen lumens in a small lamp. Many 500, 750 and WOO-watt projection lamps are available in both 10 and 25-hour life design. The 25-hour design is used most frequently. However, when maximum screen brightness is required, the 10-hour lamp may be used in the same socket and projector. Lamp wattage is the same with either the 10 or 25-hou£ lamp but the lO-hour lamp puts 10% to 15% more light on the screen. In 1000-watt lamp designs the 10-hour lamp is most commonly used since maximum screen brightness is usually required. These lamps are also available in 25-hour design where longer life is desirable and less screen brightness can be tolerated.

Substituting Higher Wattage Lamps
Motion picture and slide projectors are designed to give best cooling and performance with lamps of specific wattage, The design wattage will be found on the name plate of every projector. Higher wattage lamps may result in film damage, severe lamp distortion, and even possible damage to the projector's lenses and housing.
