AN OPEN LETTER OF APOLOGY TO ALL MEMBERS OF DEPARTMENTS OF PHILOSOPHY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA AND CORNELL UNIVERSITY (AND POSSIBLY

OTHERS) WHO MAY HAVE BEEN IN RECEIPT OF A SERIOUSLY COMPLAINING EMAIL ABOUT INSTITUTIONAL CENSORSHIP OF LEGITIMATE ACADEMIC CORRESPONDENCE DEFENDED ON THE GROUNDS OF LIMITING WHAT IS COMMONLY CALLED SPAM . Although, the complaint is genuine and legitimate in that there is, in the mind of this writer, no possible acceptable reason to censor communication. In the academic world if there is an item which is in error the form for its correction is an open and academic forum and should never be the province of uncomprehending algorithmic mind sets. The error for which I am presently apologizing is one for which, at this time, I can only conjecture its source. The names of David J. Skorton (President of Cornell University and formerly President of The University of Iowa and David J. Stockton economic advisor to Ben S. Bernanke. While there is a lingering factor of curiosity why this error of mistaken identity should have occurred at all since academic freedom is, for me, a passion and economic theories , at best, a peripheral interest, I can only suggest that other realities had interposed themselves to serve their own agenda. One might, perhaps, make an argument for an operative connection since, it had been reported, Skorton is a member of Council of Foreign Relations and Stockton advises the Federal Reserve Central Bank System and both, as are the universities involved, in strong positions to influence opinion.
