Kelly’s Korner
January and February in Florida have been very special! Our children and grandchildren were here for 12 fun-packed days! Drew, 15 yrs, and Brock, 11 years, firsts were enjoyed: First First First First First time time time time time to fly! at Disney! at the ocean! on an airboat! up next to alligators! For

All ladies of the church are invited to join the UMW for their annual Spring Breakfast on Saturday, March 31, at 9:00 am at the church. Kathryn Burt and Marvalyn Kelly are arranging the program. Hostesses for the morning are Carolyn Kloster, Susan Beichley, Cindy Krull and Bev Worden. Lois Groth and Karen Handorf will decorate the tables. We hope all women will invite guests to the breakfast as it is a very nice way to spend a morning!

We also really enjoyed our visits with our Chapel friends: Stan & Sue Lynn & Claire Ron & Lois Grundy Center former members, Ralph & Betty Geiter Our good pals, the Halverson‟s from Frederika, Iowa, were with us for nine days. We traveled to Key West together. Key West is 138 miles over the Overseas Highway from Miami. It is a paradise two miles wide and four miles long. It sure seemed like there were as many bars as people! And traffic was an absolute nightmare! Still, all in all, we had a great time! Now, late February, and we are truly READY to come back home! We are SO VERY GRATEFUL to you, our Chapel family for making this time away possible! THANK YOU! Now, on to another matter…Lent is upon us. My preaching theme is: “FINAL WORDS” from the cross, a study book by Adam Hamilton. These final words are: March 4: “Father, forgive them” March 11: “Today you will be with me in paradise” March 18: “Behold your son…behold your mother” March 25” “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Holy Thursday “I thirst” Palm/Passion Sunday “It is finished” Easter “Into Your hands I commit my spirit” Each Sunday in our service will be marked by a first person narrative of someone who stood near the cross, hearing the last seven words of Jesus. My hope is to help us imagine ourselves at the foot of the cross to hear and feel what transpired there.

Lenten Study Small Groups
You are welcome to join one of four small groups each Sunday night during Lent (Feb 26-Apr 1). Each group will have a facilitator and go through the scripture and questions from the leader‟s guide. If you haven‟t signed up and would like to attend, please join any group that works for you. The four groups include the homes of: Dan & Tricia Steen Donald & Phyllis Mann Doug & Linda Svendsen Dick & Jo Svendsen Each group will decide on a time and there are no books to purchase. Please remember to bring your bibles.

Clocks Ahead {Spring Forward}

New look for Chapel Blog
http://chapelfriends.blogspot.com/ You can still find the audio sermons on Chapel‟s blog at the top of the left column. Along the top of the blog, there are tabs. If you click a tab, that info will open up in the center column of the blog. To go back to the blog, click the home tab. We are testing a master online google calendar so that everyone can view the master calendar. Currently it sits off of the right column. Please take time to test it out, click on items listed and see the box that pops up with details of the event. You will have to scroll to the right using the scroll bar at the bottom of your window to see the calendar. The center column will have the current „jobs‟ for the upcoming Sunday. The newsletter tab will have links that you can open up each month‟s newsletter, print it or just read it. If you‟re wondering when you have special music or when you usher, check out those tabs at the top of the blog as well. Suggestions and comments are welcome! Please email lodle@heartofiowa.net with any feedback.

Women’s Bible Study
The women of the church will continue to meet on Wednesday nights, 6:30-7:30 pm through April 4. Our March hostess is Lois Groth, 1368 Hwy E27, Garwin. Each week is a different lesson, so feel free to join us when you can. And don‟t let the topic of scripture memorization keep you away. So far we‟ve learned seven remarkable benefits that will change your life. Memorizing scripture gives us: 1. Clearer thoughts 2. Steadier nerves. 3. Healthier emotions. 4. Purer habits. 5. Happier homes. 6. Greater respect. 7. Eternal optimism Isn‟t that worth at least an hour a week? Remember whenever we store away a verse in our minds, it becomes a concealed weapon. It‟s a light, a lamp, a vault of gold, a hive of honey, and a two-edged sword. It‟s available day and night for practical purposes. Its helps us „fix‟ our thoughts, and we fix our thoughts by fixing them on Jesus via His praiseworthy Word. ~Author Robert Morgan, 100 Bible Verses. Upcoming lessons: Feb 29: Holiness: Obeying God‟s Commands Mar 7: Fullness: The Holy Spirit‟s Role in our Lives Mar 14: Joy: God‟s Kind of Happiness Mar 21: Faith: Trusting God and Resting in his Word Mar 28: The 23rd Psalm plus Alpha & Omega Apr 8: Sent: The Great Commission and our Global Task We are finding useful ways to help others with the scripture we are learning along with the benefits listed, especially steadier nerves and purer habits. Come join us!

President Kathryn Burt hosted the meeting and gave devotions and a prayer before we enjoyed our lunch. President Kathryn Burt called the meeting to order after lunch. The Christmas Treats booklet compiled from the recipes gathered at the November meeting were distributed. There was no secretary‟s report. Shirley Svendsen presented the Treasurer‟s report which was accepted and filed. Correspondence was received from Jeff Koster and Merlyn Appelgate for their Christmas remembrances. Harriett Fleming thanked the group for her gift. The remembrance committee reported that all gifts are either delivered or will be quite soon. Kathryn adjourned the meeting with reminders about gifts you should NEVER give other people‟s children. Respectfully submitted, Vivian LeVier, Secretary

Love in Action {Team Belize}
MISSION MINUTE FEBRUARY 12, 2012 Team members present: Randy Beichley, Siera Richter, Shannon Fleming, Samantha Aman, Summer Langenbau, Tyler Krull, Logan Burt. Randy thanked the congregation for their support of the spaghetti meal, and over $800 was collected to go toward the project at CDI this summer. Each member finger-spelled their name as they introduced themselves. Siera Richter told of the team‟s name, Love in Action and their verse, I John 3:18: Let us not love with words or speech but with truth and action. They hope to grow together as a team as they serve others in love. They will have T-shirts for the team that have the Bible verse on them. During travel, it is an easy way to identify team members in the airport. Wristbands will be available again, like the Whatever team did in 2009. Shannon Fleming told of their monthly meetings, since November, to prepare for the trip. Each team member takes turns giving devotions at the meetings and leading the prayer circle at the end of the meeting. They will continue to meet at least once a month until they leave for Belize in July. Samantha Aman explained the cultures in Belize that they will experience including Mennonites, Creole, Garifuna, Hispanic, and Chinese. They will also learn about the Mayan culture, deaf culture, and the history of Belize. Summer Langenbau explained the anxiety box, where each person can put in their questions and worries about the trip or team without anyone knowing who asked the question. People who have been on a mission trip before help answer the concerns and discuss as a group how to handle those concerns. Tyler “Ty” Krull talked about learning and practicing sign language at each meeting. They are learning the alphabet and numbers, and also basic words that will be helpful. That way the team can tell how old they are, how many brothers and sisters they have, and ask something like, What's your name? Eli and Sonya have taken a semester of sign language and are helping them. The team will be at the deaf school during summer vacation, but hope there will be some students that will be able to come back to the school and be there when the team is there. Logan Burt talked about the importance of being part of a mission team. Along with the service project they will be doing at Cayo Deaf Institute, the team also grows closer to God by listening to what He has planned for each team member. Each team member has a devotion book and a journal and are writing down what they are learning during the preparation time. Randy reminded the congregation that Susan is in Belize now preparing for the Love In Action Team trip this summer. The team will be working together again and serving the Easter Sunrise Breakfast with the YF. Keep watching for more Love In Action news.
