1 AW109E (Power)
1.1 AW109E Computer Based Training (CBT)
Helicopter Types: AW109E Helicopter Configuration: This multimedia material covers the basic configuration of the helicopter. If not already available in the catalogue, AgustaWestland can develop multimedia material for special or optional helicopter kits when a customer requests it. System Description: The CBT system combines advanced visual aids with interactive learning media to deliver individual student training. Most systems have individual desktop Personal Computer based workstations with one large or two display screens. A networked classroom may be created by linking a set of workstations via a server to an instructor's console. Courseware is designed for student self-paced learning in an interactive multimedia environment and may include personalised instructor participation. Typically, CBT is used to train basic theory, deliver tutorials and support system familiarisation. CBT engages the trainee in active participation by requiring them to: perform tasks; exercise options; conduct procedures; answer questions. A variety of communication media are used to keep the attention of the trainee, maintain involvement and enhance learning and retention. They include: high-resolution 2D or 3D computer graphics; real life still or moving images that complement computer graphics; synthetic digital audio to explain graphical content. Main Advantages: The main advantages of this product are: a consistent standard of training independent of instructor capability and experience; continuity and standardisation in the transmission of information; autonomy of access to information in space and time; decentralisation of training courses to the users; self paced learning; constant feedback on performance; tailored training processes for greater efficiency. Pilots and Maintenance Technicians (Airframe and Avionics).
Target Population:
Course Objectives: Course Objectives are different based on the Target Student Population. (1) To provide qualified helicopter pilots with the theoretical knowledge and practical skill required to operate the specific helicopter model and all its systems throughout the full flight envelope and to respond safely to emergency situations and malfunctions. (2) To provide mechanical maintenance technicians with a detailed theoretical understanding of the helicopter airframe systems, engines operations. (3) To provide avionic / electrical maintenance technicians with a detailed theoretical understanding of the helicopter avionics systems operations.

Helicopter Configuration: The system covers the basic configuration of the helicopter. If not already available in the catalogue, AgustaWestland can also develop systems for special or optional helicopter kits when a customer requests it. System Description: The AgustaWestland Virtual Interactive Procedural Trainer (VIPT) is a stateof-the-art reconfigurable and deployable cockpit trainer. The device employs advanced graphical visualisation techniques to simulate the helicopter cockpit in a virtual environment, where cockpit controls, equipment, systems and components are faithfully reproduced using interactive graphics and touch screen technology. The VIPT is a powerful, cost effective procedural and familiarisation training tool in which pilots learn through practical application. The system enables trainees to rapidly and efficiently familiarise themselves with cockpit controls and avionic systems, developing procedural proficiency very cost effectively. The alternative would be to learn these skills in the helicopter or Full Flight Simulator. The VIPT also provides a complete free-play simulation and training environment for system and subsystem specific familiarisation and operation, including normal and emergency conditions and procedures. This includes operating the Display Unit (DU), Flight Management System (FMS), radios, as well as familiarisation with display symbology. The VIPT has a stand-alone self-standing structure, equipped with touchscreen monitors, pilot and co-pilot seats, simplified pilot flight controls, an audio system and Instructor Operating Station (IOS). The touch-screen monitors present the interactive and dynamic graphical realisation of the cockpit panels, controls, indicators and displays. The layout of the information displayed on the monitors is representative in terms of size, proportion and displacement, of the actual helicopter controls and displays. Main Advantages: Training Capabilities include: Cockpit familiarisation; Cockpit pre-start checks; Autopilot basic and upper mode logic; Common Display Unit data input protocol and familiarisation; Flight Management System, Radio Management; System and display symbology familiarisation; Engine management procedures; Avionics malfunction procedures; Normal and emergency procedures. Pilots. A stand-alone self-standing structure with touch-screen monitors, pilot and co-pilot seats, simplified pilot flight controls, an audio system, Instructor Operating Station (IOS) and computer systems preloaded with the simulation software. Helicopter Configuration: The system covers the basic configuration of the helicopter. If not already available in the catalogue, AgustaWestland can also develop systems for special or optional helicopter kits when a customer requests it. System Description: Simulation has a valuable and effective role in maintenance training. The VMT is based on an emulation approach for maintenance training that supports maintenance technicians in developing the knowledge and skills required to maintain helicopter via the correct application of maintenance procedures and in troubleshooting analysis to correctly diagnose faults. The VMT provides a complete and flexible training environment. The instructor can set up and activate emulated fault conditions. Fault conditions can be investigated and solved by the student which prevents wasting trainee time doing and repeating low-value tasks (i.e. unscrew bolts to open panels, etc.) and focusing his efforts on more important and useful activities. The VMT utilizes advanced graphical visualization techniques to simulate, in a virtual environment helicopter systems and related maintenance operations The VMT is a suite of basic functions that are, in a fully interactive 3D environment, tailored for: practicing maintenance procedures; troubleshooting and fault isolation procedures. The VMT reproduces an interactive training scenario for maintenance technicians on three screens. It operates in a classroom networked environment that has one (1) Instructor Operating Station (IOS) and two (2) Trainee Stations (TS). The IOS communicates with the TS using a local network that will be made available by the customer. The IOS has the same configuration as the TS, but is uploaded with additional software modules to monitor, control and give correct feedbacks to the trainee. Main Advantages: The VMT provides students with maintenance familiarization and practice. The helicopter cockpit equipment location, systems and components are faithfully reproduced in a graphical approach to gain a consolidated understanding of system maintenance procedures and troubleshooting procedures. Maintenance Technicians. There are three different packages (Part numbers): One stand alone Station preloaded with the VMT software. Hardware is Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) Personal Computers (PC) with two LCD screens.
