Neuberger Eng Comp 102-101 15 February 2012 Response Essay Jack Kevorkian- A Case of Assisted Suicide Jack Kevorkians essay A Case of Assisted Suicide tells an account of the first assisted suicide that Kevorkian did. After reading Kevorkians essay one can only conclude that the campaign to assist in suicide to help a person end suffering and pain is just. Kevorkians first patient, Janet Adkins, is diagnosed with Alzheimers disease, and Kevorkian says, The intelligent woman knew what the diagnosis portended, and at that instant she decided she would not live to experience the horror of such a death (318). According to Kevorkian, Janet Adkins was a remarkable, accomplished, active woman-wife, mother, grandmother, revered friend, teacher, musician, mountain climber, and outdoorsperson (318). After exhausting every possible treatment and having the disease progress further Kevorkian says, she was more determined than ever to end her life (318). Kevorkian does not just assist anybody in suicide. The person has to be mentally stable to make the decision to end their life. Kevorkians campaign helps the many people that did not want to endure their suffering anymore to end it.
