This book has been written for people who are just starting out as managers. It doesn’t include large sections on the various management theories – instead, it concentrates on
how to manage. This means things like what to do, what to think about, and what to be aware of.

would be able to meet the criteria

• using tests which are not necessary for success at the
job – this may discriminate against people whose first

• requiring some groups to undertake tests which other
groups do not have to perform

• asking questions of one group which you do not ask of
another group.
