1 March 2012 Kathy Guimond Chief of Police University of New Mexico 1 MSC 012 1540 Albuquerque, NM 87131 Sheriff Dan Houston Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office 400 Roma Ave. NW Albuquerque, NM 87102 Attn: Kathy Guimond, UNM Chief of Police Attn: Dan Houston, Bernalillo County Sheriff Chief Guimond and Sheriff Houston, On Wednesday, KOB Eyewitness News 4 ran a story about an Albuquerque man who admitted to committing voter registration fraud by registering his dog “Buddy” to vote on February 20, 2012 on the University of New Mexico’s main campus. As such an action may have violated New Mexico election law and may be punishable as a 4th degree felony, I am writing to express my deep concern about this matter. The unnamed Albuquerque man was quoted in the KOB story as saying, “[I] made up a birth date, and I made up a social security number and I had a voter registration card in my hand for Buddy two weeks later." Such a wanton violation of NMSA 1-20-3 is extremely disquieting to me as a citizen. Attached you will find a copy of the voter registration card in question. Since this act of potential voter fraud occurred within your jurisdiction, I hope that you will treat this matter with the utmost seriousness and undertake a thorough investigation. Furthermore, I kindly request that you also refer this matter to the District Attorney’s office for additional investigation. Sincerely,

Patrick Davis Executive Director cc: Kari Brandenburg, District Attorney Encl: Voter Registration Card
