March 8, 2012 Media Release Re: Mother Arrested for Bringing Daughter to Fight

On Monday March 5, 2012 School Resource Officers at Auburn High School were notified by school administration of a disturbing video that was being circulated throughout the school. The video was of a physical fight between two fifteen year old female students in ninth grade. The video was recorded by a friend of one of the females with a smart phone. The video depicted two females fighting in the parking lot behind Holy Family Church on North Street in the City of Auburn on Friday March 2nd. During the course of the fight, the mother of one of the combatants was encouraging her daughter to beat up the other female. The mother continued to yell at her daughter to fight throughout the video. A criminal investigation was initiated by the SROs which involved several statements being taken and the collection of the video as evidence. During the course of the investigation it was determined that the two females had been arguing through text messaging and over Facebook. The two females had agreed to fight and the same mother drove her daughter to the parking lot. The mother, Vicky A. Townsend, was brought in for questioning where she admitted to the allegations. Townsend was subsequently arrested and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child. EWOC is a Class A Misdemeanor. Townsend was processed and released on an appearance ticket to appear in Auburn City Court on Friday March 9th. The investigation into the fight is ongoing but no other charges are anticipated.
