Today’s term: Legislative Oversight

This isn’t just confined to existing agencies. In 1987. a committee was created to investigate the Iran-Contra affair .The process of monitoring the bureaucracy and its administration of policy. This gives Congress the power of a “check” on the executive branch. They can pressure agencies. a new committee was established to investigate Watergate. increase or decrease and even de-fund an agency. This is done mainly through (mostly) public hearings. In 1973.

This. however. usually does not translate to votes. Often. Determined by party in power . and too late. problems are investigated after the fact.
