What is a pitch?  Five minute presentation  On the movie/ TV serial you want to make  Addressed to producer/ prodn house/ studio executive/ financier  So that he is enrolled into your project! .

When to pitch?  Before the screenplay is written  After crystallizing the concept  After rehearsing it over and over again  With your mother/ girlfriend/ dog till they are sick of you and your story .

.What to include in a pitch?  Mainly the concept and story  Visually exciting narration  Key characters if fiction  Illustrative cases if non-fiction  What makes this project different?  The “hook”.

Not acceptable  Reading out from a paper  Narrating as if memorized  Director interrupting writer .

Presentation flow  Writer presents the story  Q&A with executive  Director on visual style  Leave a note behind .

Must have  Real commitment to the story/concept  Polished selling style  No fear of rejection  Options in case of outright rejection! .

Step1: Ideation  Idea sources – Own experience: events/ characters – What others are talking about – News stories you read/ see – Other films/shows that are “gr8/ horrible” – Imagination!  Write “Concept Note” .

Step 2: How unique?  Survey of other products USP of your product. – Strengths & weaknesses  Articulate .

Step3: Fine tuning  Brain storming  Sounding boards  Consistent with theory?  Re-write “Concept Note” .

write non-fiction. write – Storyline + character graphs – Treatment + format + 3 examples .Step4: Fleshing out  If  If fiction.

Step 5: Preparing pitch  Pitching  Visuals  Presentation script plan & rehearsals .

Pitching exercise  Form groups  Each group to identify a concept and prepare a pitch  Present a pitch to the class acting as the channel execs/ financiers .
