Cost of Thanksgiving Dinner over the Decades

The custom of Thanksgiving Day
The custom of Thanksgiving Day spread from Plymouth to other New England colonies. During the Revolutionary War, eight special days of thanks were observed for victories and for being saved from dangers. In 1789, President George Washington issued a general proclamation naming November 26 a day of national thanksgiving. In the same year, the Protestant Episcopal Church announced that the first Thursday in November would be a regular yearly day for giving thanks.

The tradition of pro football
The tradition of pro football being played on Thanksgiving started in 1920. The Detroit Lions have been playing on Thanksgiving since 1925. As of 2008, only six NFL teams had never played on Thanksgiving, including the New Orleans Saints, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Carolina Panthers2 1

Celebrates
My family celebrates Thanksgiving by coming together on the Wednesday before thanksgiving. Everyone stays at my house for five days, where there is lots of noise, food and fun! Our main course is Turkey, ham, sweet potato casserole, greens, Mac –n-cheese, corn bread, potato salad, and lot’s of dessert. • Butterball got it’s name from Carolina’s Turkey • Butterball, LLC is headquartered in Garner NC.
