PUBLIC ART SYMPOSIUM FOR LOCAL ARTISTS Saturday, April 28, 9am-6pm Registration deadline April 23rd
The City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Departments (MCAD) Public Art Program invites local artists interested in increasing their capacity to attend a Public Art Symposium, on Saturday April 28, 2012 at the Philanthropy Theatre from 9:00-5:00pm, with networking reception to follow from 5:00-6:00 pm at the Sky Garden Rooftop. Both venues are located inside The Plaza Theatre, 125 Pioneer Plaza. Participating artists will learn how to make the leap into the public art fieldfrom finding public art projects, securing commissions, and hands-on workshop on how to submit a winning letter of interest. Guest Speaker Lynn Basa, artist and author of The Artists Guide to Public Art: How to Find and Win Commissions, will be moderating the symposium The event is free but attendees must register by April 23 to Alejandra Carrillo at carrilloam@elpasotexas.gov or (915) 541-4481. About moderator Lynn Basa Chicago artist Lynn Basa divides her practice between studio work and large-scale public art commissions around the country. She teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago on public art professional practices. She is the former chair of the public art committee of the Seattle Arts Commission and founding director and curator of the University of Washington Medical Centers art collection. Her book The Artists Guide to Public Art: How to Find and Win Commissions is widely considered to be the authoritative handbook nationally for artists seeking to create work in the public art field.
