COMPARISON FACT SHEET

Mitt Romney
BAILOUTS

Ron Paul
Strongly opposed the bailouts and the stimulus, voting against both. Paul argued that the Wall Street bailout was immoral and unconstitutional.

Supported the $700 billion Wall Street bailout, and in 2010 said “It was the right thing to do.” Romney wrote in his book that the $854 billion ‘all Democrat’ stimulus “will accelerate the timing of the start of the recovery.” Passed “Romneycare” into Massachusetts law, which eventually became the blueprint for Obamacare.
Santorum referring to Romney, "Your mandate is no different than Barack Obama's mandate. It is the same mandate."

$

HEALTHCARE

Opposed Obamacare and pledged to repeal it and end its unconstitutional mandate that all Americans must carry only government-approved health insurance or answer to the IRS.

FEDERAL RESERVE

Supports the Fed policy of artificially manipulating interest rates that has been implicated in the housing crisis of 2008, and in the crash of 1929 that commenced the Great Depression.

Paul has been the Fed’s most outspoken opponent for 30 years. A partial audit that Paul pushed for revealed the Fed gave out $16 TRILLION in secret loans to U.S. and foreign banks.

ABORTION

In 1994, said “I believe abortion should be safe and legal.” And in 2004 attended a Planned Parenthood fundraiser. Now claims to oppose abortion.

Consistently pro-life, Paul has repeatedly introduced bills to overturn Roe v. Wade in Congress. Always voted against funding Planned Parenthood.

GUN RIGHTS

GRADED BY GUN OWNERS OF AMERICA
In 1994, said "I don't line up with the NRA.” As Governor, he signed the nation's first ban on assault weapons and steeply increased fees on gun owners by 400%.

GOA says Paul has been one of the most consistent defenders of the 2nd Amendment in Congress. Received an endorsement from the National Association for Gun Rights.

HOUSING BUBBLE

Aggressively promoted policies that were contributing to the bad assets on the books of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. He proclaimed in a 2004 press release "fair and affordable housing should be a right, not a privilege." He then pledged roughly $350 million in subsides for high risk borrowers.

Paul accurately predicted the housing bubble in a speech before Congress in 2001. He warned that government-backed loans, such as those from Freddie Mac, would cause a housing bubble. His warnings went unheeded and were considered fringe ideas -- experts now agree that Paul was correct.

Mitt Romney
PERSONAL LIBERTY

Ron Paul
Voted against the PATRIOT Act and has vehemently condemned Obama's signing of the NDAA. Says that you can still provide security without sacrificing our Bill of Rights.

Supports the PATRIOT Act, which violates the 4th Amendment by allowing unwarranted government surveillance of U.S. citizens. Supported the NDAA, which gave the President the power to indefinitely detain U.S. Citizens without trial.

FOREIGN POLICY

Has expressed no intention of stopping overseas nation-building. Said he would expand the military by 100,000 troops, but has not explained how he would pay for these expenditures Romney received deferments to avoid the draft during the Vietnam War, and has never served in the U.S. Military.

Says no more nation-building overseas. Stated that overseas bases and troops benefit foreign economies at the expense of U.S. taxpayers. Wants to restore domestic bases and provide increased security for our borders. Paul is the only candidate to have worn the uniform, serving as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

CONTRIBUTIONS

Romney's top contributors are Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup, and Bank of America. Also receives millions of dollars from anonymous donors through his Super PACs.

Paul's top contributors are active duty personnel of the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force. Received nearly 7 times more than every other candidate combined in military donations. Nearly all of his contributions are from small donors, and he has raised the most money in a single day in U.S. History.
• Committed to cutting spending, will eliminate five government departments and will only take a $39,336 Presidential salary (The President’s base salary is normally $400,000). • He has vowed to honor Social Security and Medicare, stating that they will remain funded using savings from halting foreign aid and ending our overseas conflicts. • Has the only plan to cut $1 trillion his first year, and balance the budget in his first term. • Paul has opposed every tax increase in Congress.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

• Refused to sign a "no new taxes" pledge; raised taxes/fees seven times as Governor. • As Governor, Romney supported “Cap-andTrade,” a carbon tax scheme which increases energy prices. • Supports ethanol subsidies, which have been proven to be inefficient, and lead to higher food prices. • In 2006, supported amnesty for illegal immigrants. Now claims to be against it.
