For the past several months the friends and family of Ernest J. Ross, Jr., (Team Ernie), have been pondering a way to forever memorialize Ernie in the city of Holyoke. Born and raised in his beloved city, Ern chose to spend his entire adult life here in Holyoke. His contributions to the city were numerous, starting with his involvement in the 1970s with the charter commission, his work on numerous local elections and participation on many boards and committees including the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, Beavers Club, Holyoke Elks #902, Valley Opportunity Council and the Holyoke Taxpayers Association. He loved this city with a passion he shared with this wife Kerry and daughter Johanna. Both Kerry and Ern were “locals” attending many city wide events and frequenting local restaurants. During this period of searching for a way to memorialize Ernie, Team Ernie became aware of the Holyoke Public Library’s massive Rebuild and Expansion Program. This was perfect. Ernie was an avid reader of newspapers, usually three a day, (including all the local papers and the Boston Globe, affectionately called the rag). Occasionally, Ern would enter into the middle of a conversation and his family would jokingly tell him to go back to his paper! Because of this love of reading and, combined with his love of the city of Holyoke we have decided to raise money for the Newspaper and Periodical Room of the Holyoke Public Library, to be known as the Ernest J. Ross, Jr. Newspaper and Periodical Room. This is a $60,000 commitment over five years. We will accomplish this through a Golf Tournament Fundraiser, to be run each year until we reach our goal of $60,000. The first one will be held May 19, 2012. The golf tournament is full and we are now concentrating on obtaining sponsors and raffle prizes. Please see the attached information and consider being a sponsor or donating a raffle prize. With your assistance, we will be able to memorialize Ernie Ross, Jr. forever in the city of Holyoke!

Thank you from all of us at Team Ernie!
