AUCC Model Licence Limited Time Offer of Discounted Pricing on Retroactive Payments

The Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) and Access Copyright have negotiated a Model Licence as well as an opportunity for institutions to benefit from discounted pricing for the period when retroactive payments are due (retroactive discount). The retroactive discount varies depending on when the institution decides to sign the Model Licence and on whether the institution operated under the Interim Tariff certified by the Copyright Board. The retroactive discount is tiered to provide significant savings to those institutions that decide to sign the Model Licence early. For example, institutions operating under the Interim Tariff that advise Access Copyright in writing of their intention to sign the Model Licence by no later than May 1, 2012, and sign by no later than June 30, 2012, pay no retroactive payments. Retroactive discounts are also offered to those institutions that were not operating under the Interim Tariff. Retroactive Discount Table Signing Date (Number of retroactive months)1 Discount for Institutions Operating under Interim Tariff 2 Discount for Institutions Not Operating under Interim Tariff as of September 1st, 2011 Discount for Institutions Not Operating under Interim Tariff as of January 1st, 2011

The number of retroactive months is the number of months between January 1, 2011, (the effective date of the Model Licence) and the Signing Date.

Institutions operating under the Interim Tariff that wish to take advantage of the retroactive discount must continue to pay the FTE and per page royalties for coursepacks until the Signing Date.
3

To take advantage of the 1-May-12 discounts, institutions must advise Access Copyright in writing of their intention to sign the Model Licence by no later than May 1, 2012, and must sign the Model Licence by no later than June 30, 2012.

The retroactive payment owing per full time equivalent student is calculated as follows: (annual royalty rate of $26/12) x number of retroactive months x (1-retroactive discount %)
