Stephen Greenblatt Wins Pulitzer Prize

by Random House Australia on 18 April 2012
THE SWERVE: HOW THE RENAISSANCE BEGAN by Stephen Greenblatt has won this year’s Pulitzer Prize for General Non-fiction. In its citation, the Pulitzer board descrbed this celebrated scholar's book as "a provocative book arguing that an obscure work of philosophy, discovered nearly 600 years ago, changed the course of history by anticipating the science and sensibilities of today." Karen Russell’s SWAMPLANDIA! was also nominated for a Pulitzer in the fiction category. Controversially, however, no fiction prize was awarded by the 20-strong panel this year, as they could not separate the three finalists.
