Finished Measurements: 20” around x 12” long Materials: 1 skein each of Valley Yarns 2/14 Alpaca Silk Hand Dyed (80% alpaca / 20% silk, 865 yds / 4 oz) colors Slate and Tapestry US size 2 (2.75 mm) 16” circular and double pointed needles, or size needed to get gauge 8 stitch markers Gauge: About 7 sts = 1” in stockinette stitch Abbreviations: k2tog: knit 2 stitches together kfb: knit into the front and back of stitch Directions: With Slate, cast on 8 sts and join in the round. Rnd 1: Knit. Rnd 2: *Place marker, kfb; rep from *. 8 sts increased. Rnd 3: Knit. Rnd 4: *Slip marker, kfb, k to marker; rep from *. 8 sts increased. Repeat rounds 3 and 4 until you have 144 sts (18 sts between each marker). Knit until hat measures 12” or desired length. Switch to Tapestry and knit for 8” or until Tapestry section is as long as the Slate section after the increases. Weave in any loose ends at this point. Rnd 1: K to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, slip marker; rep from *. 8 sts decreased. Rnd 2: Knit. Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until you have 8 sts, ending with a round 1. Cut yarn and draw through remaining stitches. Weave in end to the inside of the hat.
