Shades of 1970 Chelsea can use long throw again

Rory Delap may be the most famous proponent of the long throw but long before the Stoke City mid elder exed his shoulders on the touchline there was Ian Hutchinson. Indeed, Chelsea’s winning goal in the 1970 FA Cup nal replay against Leeds United came from a “Hutch” long throw, bundled in at the far post by David Webb. Thus Branislav Ivanovic will be extending a long heritage when he winds up at the Nou Camp tonight. And why not, “tiki-taka” is not the only way to win a football match and given Chelsea's height advantage over Barcelona it would be foolish not take advantage. The problem may be in creating the opportunity. Ivanovic cannot throw the ball as far as Delap so Chelsea need to advance a long way up the pitch before winning a throw-in within his delivery range.
