"Unwritten" I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned Staring at the blank page before you Open up the dirty window Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find Reaching for something in the distance So close you can almost taste it Release your inhibitions Feel the rain on your skin No one else can feel it for you Only you can let it in No one else, no one else Can speak the words on your lips Drench yourself in words unspoken Live your life with arms wide open Today is where your book begins The rest is still unwritten Oh, oh, oh I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way Staring at the blank page before you Open up the dirty window Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find Reaching for something in the distance So close you can almost taste it Release your inhibitions Feel the rain on your skin No one else can feel it for you Only you can let it in

Oh, yeah, yeah
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. No matter where I am: in the car, at my job, at home under the covers just waking up. The song “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield is just one of those songs that keep your spirits high and remind you who you are. Beginning with the first few words. “I am unwritten, cant read my mind, I’m undefined. I’m just beginning, the pen’s in my hand, ending unplanned…” To me this completely describes the stage I am in as a woman, a person, and a student. I cant be defined by society as just the “norm”. It’s hard to read what exactly is going on through my head, because I am that unique! So with those words it makes us remember how special and different we are. I’m only nineteen years old, “I’m just beginning.” The pen, or what you do with your life and how you agree to live it is you writing your book, the ending unplanned because we still have so much left to go through. Then she starts with her bridge: “Staring, at the blank page before you, open up your dirty window, let the sun illuminate the words that you cannot find…” To me that means, LIFT YOUR HEAD UP FROM THE BOOK AND 8-5 LIFE YOU LIVE AND LOOK UP! Feel the radiance of the sun, the beauty of the world, and let THAT be your inspiration. Natasha is also showing her struggle to write the song. After thinking about it from a songwriter’s perspective, she was trying to prove herself to the Billboards, without having to feel or be like everyone else. Some stars are expected to be perfect, “but I cant live that way...” She also has another message behind it. Her message is LIVE LIFE THE WAY YOU WANT TO. BE DIFFERENT, IT’S OKAY! NO ONE ELSE CAN TELL YOU THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE, BUT LET IT ALL IN! To do things most of

Caceres 4 society is afraid to do! Because “we’ve been conditioned, to not make mistakes…” You want to “feel the rain on your skin, no one else can feel it for you, only you can let it in… No one else can speak the words on your lips… drench yourself in words unspoken, live your life with eyes wide open…” Natasha points out that the rest is still “unwritten”. Meaning, you always have time to change. You always have time to do the things you never thought you could do or accomplish. This song is motivational. And that’s why I can just play it anywhere and feel great inside! My favorite verse was “live your life with arms wide open”. To me this means the world is yours! Do with it what makes you a better you! Love more, live more, and laugh more. All in all, with just one time of listening to this song, there is no doubt in my mind one will smile and think about how amazing of a person they are!
