BREWER SPORTS INTERNATIONAL LAUNCHES #C4CT TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR CONCUSSION TREATMENTS
Coalition for Concussion Treatment (#C4CT) to highlight the importance of increasing awareness and support of developing new treatments for traumatic brain injury
MINNEAPOLIS, MN April 26, 2012 - Brewer Sports International (BSI), a globally diversified boutique services provider for professional athletes, sports agencies and numerous other international organizations touching the sports and wellness field, today announced the launch of a new movement called the Coalition for Concussion Treatment. Referred by the twitter shorthand #C4CT, the purpose of the coalition is to continue building awareness about key scientific and medical advances in an ongoing effort to identify and develop new Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) treatment opportunities. With recent developments in the actions of the NFL, NCAA and youth sports leagues around the country changing their long-standing rules and practices as it relates to concussions, there is clearly a major shift in mentality when it comes to the acceptance of impact these injuries have on players said Jack Brewer, CEO of Brewer Sports International, former football player with the University of Minnesota and five-year veteran of the National Football League (NFL). It is critical for those of us who have first-hand experience with concussions and who can influence change by accelerating research to take a leadership role to make our peers and the community at large aware of the potential of new research in development. This could have a big impact for future generations of players having access to better care. With numerous NFL alumni suffering from mild to severe effects from concussions, the lack of treatment for brain injuries has yet to come to fruition. As of today, nearly 2,000 former and current NFL players have stepped forward to raise awareness of the severity of this issue and the need for a solution, and that number is continuing to grow. During his five-year career in the NFL, CEO Jack Brewer has firsthand knowledge on the devastating effects of concussions. As an ex-NFL player I personally have experienced hundreds of violent collisions throughout my career and also have several teammates and friends who suffer the lasting effects of traumatic brain injuries, continued Mr. Brewer. This is a passion of mine and BSI is committed to helping advance TBI research and development. I am hopeful that our ongoing support and this coalition will help raise awareness and establish new technology for the treatment of brain injuries and concussions. In November 2011, Brewer Sports International funded research being conducted under a collaboration agreement between Amarantus BioSciences, Inc. (OTCBB: AMBS), a biotechnology company developing MesencephalicAstrocyte-derived Neurotrophic Factor (MANF), a first-in-class diseasemodifying therapeutic protein, and Banyan Biomarkers, the leader in developing in vitro diagnostic products to detect concussions and other forms of TBI as they work to develop innovative treatment methods for traumatic brain injuries. The BSI Coalition for Concussion Treatment has garnered the support of Paul Anderson, an aspiring attorney who runs the most comprehensive legal website covering all lawsuits filed against the NFL regarding concussions known as NFL Concussion Litigation. In addition, Dustin Fink a certified athletic trainer (ATC) who administers a website covering concussions and their treatment known as The Concussion Blog is actively supporting the movement. A #C4CT online petition has also been established.
