Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa

Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.
As part of this veechar, we will focus on following pankti:
NN N| MJ| H| | HH| v
|HNM N| v7v
As per the established meanings Kabeer Jee was tied with chains and waves of River Ganges broke
those chains and Kabeer Jee starting floating on top of The Ganges. As per the story Kabeer Jee
prayed to Waheguru Jee to save His life. Gurmat is all about being in HIS Hukum and acceptance of
Hukum. Kabeer Jee himself guides within Gurbani that how he has gone fearless about the physical
death:
|HJ H H HN |Hm v
H H N H|U N|Hm v9v
Kabeer Jee was very well aware that this physical body is perishable and the nature of death had
been revealed through the Gian of Shabad. There was no reason why someone like Kabeer Jee
would have prayed to Waheguru Jee for saving this physical body:
N| |UJ H|UN HNJ MJ J| v
lN J NU |H N M N| v7?v
It was the very same reason why Gur Arjan Dev Jee, didnt pray to Waheguru Jee to save him instead
accepted HIS will as Sweet Will. At a State where Mind is fully absorbed in HIS Love, physical body
and Ardaas for saving it from worldly pains becomes meaningless.

Lets try to understand some of the key words of this panktee in perspective of Gurbani:
Ganga of Gurmat
In Gurbani, many times same word is referred to more than one thing; Same word can have different
meaning in physical world or the world of Manmat and it can have totally different meaning in the
spiritual or Gurmat world. One such example is Ram. Ram of physical world is so called King of
Ayodhya Ram Chand but Ram of Gurmat is Jot or HIS presence within all of us. Depending upon the
context we need to figure out which Ram is being referred to in Gurbani. As a rule of thumb,
whenever such word is used to portray something negative, then its meanings are in physical
context and positive reference will lead to interpretation in spiritual world.
Similarly, Ganga of Manmat or physical world is River Ganges. For e.g.
NN H NU| HU|m N| H NU U|m NH| HJH N U N|H v
N| H | N H |JM N H H H| H v7v
Ganga of Gurmat is HIS Naam, HUKUM or Gian of Gurbani. Gurbani defines Ganga as follows
NN HM N N|U H v
H |HH |H N| N| J | J| H| HH v9v J v
In above panktee Gurbani has clearly defined the Ganga Jal of Spiritual world as Gobind Naam. Naam
for us is whole of Gurbani - the practical implementation of Gurbani in our life is NAAM. Instead of
taking this definition and applying it within Gurbani, wherever applicable, we still believe that Ganga
of Gurbani is River Ganges. Lets look at some other examples where Ganga of Gurmat is referred:
N| H |HM |Um HH NN | v
Here, Kabeer Jee is guiding us that His mind has become as pure as Naam of Gobind. The only pure
thing in this world is Waheguru Jee, HIS Naam / Gurbani and not the water of any river. If we take
water of Ganges as pure, then as of today the validity of this panktee wont hold truth. The whole
world knows that how impure Ganges is as of today.
Janjeer of Gurbani
Gurbani guides us in following panktees that Janjeer or Chain of Gurmat is our own sins. Gurbani is
addressed to Mind, Brain and Soul and none of them can be shackled into physical chains.

m) |UN NM| HH| |U F|m v
|J H|8 H8 F|m v
U) |UN NM| HH||m |U|N | 8|J |H|m v
Its very clear that Janjeer of Gurmat is our own sins. Janjeer of Gurmat is not the physical janjeer
but our own thoughts which have created a chain against our Mind and stop it from going towards
Waheguru Jee.

Mrig of Gurbani
As discussed in previous veechars, Gurbani uses lots of male characters to symbolise our own Mind.
Mrig of Gurbani is our Mind. Deer keeps running whole life in search of Kasturi, that exists within
and on similar lines human mind keeps running in thoughts for whole life and never realises that the
Real Bliss or Nectar of HIS Naam was within. Few examples from Gurbani that potray Mrig as Mind
are as follows:
) |H |HN | H H H |H |HU NJ vv
m) J| |HN |H |H| U|H HHNM v
HH|N M 8|U |HN v |HN N | W J|m v9v J v
In above panktees, Mind is compared to Mrig. If we focus on last example given above, its very clear
that even here the reference is upon riding the target. The mind cant be killed, it can only be
controlled and it can be directed in positive direction. Bhagats were the ones who rode on their
mind and controlled the thought process. Keeping, all these definitions in mind, lets come back to
our original panktee for veechar:
NN N| MJ| H| | HH| v
|HNM N| v7v
Kabeer Jee is guiding us that when He surrendered to Gian of Gurmat and practically implemented
the teachings of GIAN, it broke the chain of sins. On exactly similar lines Kabeer Jee guides us as
follows:
N| K |U N N| MJ| |N v
Kabeer Jee says that my Mind was drowning within Maya but wave of Gurmat Gian or wisdom saved
me. Similarly, waves of Gurmat Gian break the chain of sins around our mind. As a result of Gian,
Kabeer Jee now rides or sits on the His own Mind i.e. MrigShala. Shala is skin of doubts on top of this
mind. With the help of Brahm Gian (Bibek Budh) Kabeer Jee got rid of all the dualities of life and now
rides on top of Mind or Deer; which was wondering in all directions in search of Amrit, which resides
within itself.
Lets do a brief veechar on this whole shabad
NN NH|U| N|J N| v
Gusayan means Master. Kabeer Jee says Gang Gusayan i.e. the Master or Creator of
NaamWaheguru Jee is deep and profound. For unknown reasons Gusayan has been interpreted as
Mother and this panktee has been referred to Ganga Mata. If Gurbani also refers Ganga as Mata,
then what is the difference between Gurmat and Manmat?
HH| l| N| N| v9v

This is the state of Mind, before Kabeer Jee became One with Waheguru Jee. Kabeer Jees mind was
also chained into Maya.

There were lot of Sikhs and disciples but no one made Waheguru Jee as friend. Most of them got
stuck half way through. Kabeer Jee is the only one who touched the finish line among the peers.
Thats why Kabeer Jee says now there is no one around me; most of them are left far behind.
HM M J W vv9Ov9cv
Waheguru Jee is saviour, everywhere; in water and on earth.
It wont be a big surprise if some organisations will leverage on this shabad to propagate the
importance of Ganga in Sikhism and ask Sikhs to reside on the banks of this river. The key for us
should be to cleanse the existing literature based upon Gurbani itself, before other people get a
chance to misuse our Gurbani. We have already given them lots of loose points in our gurbani
veechars to question the uniqueness of Sikhism.
The veechar above is in no way a concluding statement on meanings of this shabad; its just an
attempt to enable us think with different dimensions that may operate in the world of Gurmat.
Summary
Gurmats Ganaga is Naam, Hukum or Gian of Gurbani. This gian helps to break the chains of sins that
we keep accumulating for our soul. Mrig of Gurbani is our own mind which is wondering in all
directions in search of Amrit, which resides within itself.
