Miss Myers had a “split assignment” in her student teaching. The first half of her “split” placement was in the third grade classroom of Mrs. Stephany Henderson at Western Hills Elementary School in the West Des Moines Community School District. This placement was from January 17 through March 9, 2012. The second placement was in the same school district but in the second grade classroom of Mrs. Annie Orsini at Westridge Elementary School, from March 12 through May 4, 2012. As her Student Teaching Supervisor, I made three “formal” observations in each of these classrooms and worked with Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Orsini in completing a midterm and a final evaluation for each of these placements. As a former elementary principal with 29 years of experience, the one thing I would emphasize to prospective employers is that Miss Myers made consistent improvement in all areas throughout her student teaching. It is very helpful to know that this young lady is an excellent student, but she also continuously reflects upon her teaching, always seeking better ways of improving her instruction. She had excellent rapport with her mentor teachers and the students in each classroom. Students enjoyed having her as their teacher. Miss Myers got to know the students on an individual basis, allowing her to understand even better what their needs were. Since I have made six formal observations and completed two midterm evaluations and two final evaluations for this student teacher, I am confident she will do very well as a teacher, and I am very pleased to recommend her to you. If there is any further information I may provide regarding Miss Lisa Myers, please feel free to contact me at either of the addresses or the telephone number listed on this letterhead. I certainly believe that this is the type of student that any prospective educational employer would want to interview and to consider for any openings they might have.

Jim Mayse, Drake University Student Teaching Supervisor
