is a politically motivated stunt. It is totally inappropriate and potentially compromises the prosecution of this important case. It is commonly known that Sheriff Rodella is supporting my opponent in the upcoming primary, and sadly, he is willing to compromise this criminal case in those efforts. The harsh reality is that the truck was impounded by, and under the control of, the Rio Arriba County Sheriff when it was destroyed. Sheriff Rodella should stop ducking his responsibility in the destruction of the truck. The concerns expressed by Sheriff Rodella in his March 3, 2012, request to me were presented to an impartial District Court Judge. After hearing evidence and arguments presented by lawyers, including Sheriff Rodella’s attorney, the Judge issued a Protective Order. That proceeding did not include “cheap shots at RASO,” nor was it an attempt to turn Rio Arriba law enforcement into a “whipping boy.” Rather, the Court proceedings were designed to protect the integrity of the criminal case and insure justice for the victims, the citizens of Rio Arriba County, and the State of New Mexico. It is essential that the Rio Arriba Sheriff’s Office works with the District Attorney’s Office for the justice that the victims and the citizens of Rio Arriba County deserve. The Rio Arriba Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office have worked together successfully on countless cases, including the recent murder conviction of Orlando Trujillo.
