SVA is an arts organisation based in 1500 acres of Forestry Commission land in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the North Downs in Challock, Kent. We commission artists to make work in response to the forest. Down Time represents one strand of SVA’s education and learning programme, funded through chances4change (C4C) and the health authority. C4C was a £5.6m portfolio of 62 projects in the South East funded by the Big Lottery Fund Wellbeing programme. The aims were to address physical and mental well being through a series of training and artist-led activities with vulnerable young people and those at risk of disengagement. SVA now has funding for a 4th year of research from the Big Lottery Fund as part of a small consortium. The research from the project ‘Science Nature and Identity, Understanding the Value of Experiential Learning in a Land Art Context’ is an SVA publication.
