Breath-Tone Exercises

The use of a mirror will help for proper posture and diaphragm movement 1. Slow Hiss out Inhale deeply and slowly hiss, noticing the movement and feeling the use of a steady stream of air 2. Deep Breathe with Tone Inhale deeply like above but now add a tone as you exhale 3. Breathe-sing with grace note from above (somewhat a sigh-sing) A nice even "hah" with the pitch initially higher. Choose an easy note. 4. Bounce with tone Hold a tone and shake the body to see how it oscillates. 5. Staccati and Legato lines Fast and short notes compared with slow and long notes This is all done to expand the mechanism that powers our voice. This helps with more volume, greater tone, and stamina.
