May 8, 2012 President Barack Obama The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW Washington, DC 20500 Dear Mr. President: We write this letter to you in protest concerning your statement in Oklahoma on March 22, 2012 purporting to “cut through the red tape” for fast tracking the southern extension of the XL Pipeline from Oklahoma to Texas. This is a step backwards after your admirable decision to put on hold the proposed northern pipeline extension from Canada to Oklahoma. The pipeline in any version negatively pushes our country to more fossil fuel addiction with more oil profits and increasingly severe environmental impacts including more greenhouse gases and more global warming, more of the same. We would prefer to live in a world where sustainability is the norm rather than an afterthought. A policy that emphasizes renewable energy over fossil fuels would be better for us and for our grandchildren.
