Even though writing short story is an important skill learned at Senior High School, based on the pre-observation and experience in teaching writing short story, it was found that the students in my class have difficulty in mastery the skill. Several factors affect the writing skill such as students’ style of learning and the techniques of teaching used by the teacher. The purpose of this research is to find out (1) to what extent copy master can improve the students’ participation in learning the writing of short story (2) how well copy master can improve better the students’ mastery in writing short story. A two-cycle classroom action research was utilized to answer the research questions. Each cycle consisted of four activities; they are planning, action, observation, and reflection. The findings of this research are (1) copy master can improve students’ participation in learning the writing short story. (2) copy master can better improve the students’ mastery in writing short story. It can be concluded that in order to improve the students’ participation and ability to write short story the copy master can be used.
