MEDIA ADVISORY THE LAKE HURON PRIMARY WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM JOINT BOARD OF MANAGEMENT May 23, 2012

Water Use Restrictions Requested The Lake Huron Primary Water Supply System is requesting all area municipalities to implement water use reductions in response to a possible break on the transmission pipeline between the water treatment plant near Grand Bend and the City of London. Affected municipalities include Bluewater, South Huron, Lambton Shores, Lucan Biddulph, North Middlesex, Middlesex Centre, Strathroy Caradoc and the City of London. In response to this emergency, the supply to the City of London from the Elgin Area water supply system has been increased, however in order to maintain adequate storage of water in area reservoirs, the Lake Huron Primary Water Supply System is requesting area municipalities and consumers to voluntarily reduce their consumption of water. Water Use Reductions At a minimum, the following water use reductions are recommended:  Limit or postpone indoor residential use of water. Consider using dishwashers and clothes washers after the emergency period has ended.  Take a brief shower rather than a bath, or consider delaying until after the emergency period has ended.  Reduce toilet flushing as much as possible. Consider flushing the toilet every second use.  Suspend unnecessary use of water for industrial or commercial establishments, as well as construction sites, such as washing operations. Work crews are currently investigating a sudden loss in pressure on the primary transmission main between the water treatment plant near Grand Bend and the terminal reservoir near Arva, north of the City of London.
