From September 2012, the Geography curriculum at Abbeyfield School, will adopt the IMYC structure. Teaching and learning in the subject will: Follow the IMYC agreed topics and Big Ideas each term, in order to provide students with clear links between the subject and other areas of the school curriculum in order to give learning meaning. Take into account the Abbeyfield Learner wordle in lesson planning to ensure that geography students develop into well-rounded learners. Follow the Abbeyfield Learning Wheel model to give learning in geography lessons structure and meaning as well as ensuring that teaching and learning provides the opportunity for all students to make outstanding progress.

Year 7 Geography overview from September 2012 Term IMYC Topic Big Idea Problems, disputes and contentious issues can sometimes be satisfactorily solved or resolved Geography Unit Where do we live? Students explore issues surrounding settlement provision and patterns in the UK and further afield. Culminating in the design of a new housing area in Chippenham considering how current housing issues can be resolved Our Amazing World The purpose of this module is to stimulate an interest in and a sense of wonder about places. The main emphasis is the key concept of place, developing students geographical imaginations of places at a variety of scales and understanding the physical and human characteristics of them. Wild Weather Students investigate how extreme weather events in the UK and around the world can create challenges for people. Students will explore how people adapt and cope with such events Economic change and globalisation Students will examine how changes in employment patterns and trade in the UK and around the world provide challenges for decision makers.
