Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.

3 - Update 3
Requirements: Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 Windows Storage Server 2008 R2

Microsoft iSCSI Software Target (Update 3) KB2627284 Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 supports differencing virtual hard disks (VHDs). However, the file format it uses for the differencing disks is incompatible with differencing VHDs created by other applications such as Hyper-V and the upcoming release of Windows Server (codenamed Windows Server 8). Mounting incompatible differencing VHDs could lead to data corruption and is not supported. This update prevents the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 running on Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2008 R2 from attempting to mount incompatible differencing VHDs.

Table below illustrates the interoperability for:

Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 on a computer running Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V on a computer running Windows Server 2008 R2 1 The next release which refers to both Microsoft iSCSI Software Target and Hyper-V on Windows Server 8

Window Server 8 is the codename of the next release of Windows Server.

Mounting VHDs directly will be blocked, but there will be Windows PowerShell cmdlets to assist with the migration of the differencing VHD.

This update contains one package: iscsitarget.msi: This is a full build of Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3. Use this to upgrade existing installations, in factory images or first-time installations. This update contains all previous updates.
