The company: Toms is a retail company that also operates in non-profit subsidiary. With every Tom shoes sold, Toms will donate a pair to a person in need. Since Sept. 2010, Toms gave away more than 1 million pairs of shoes. One Day Without Shoes Stats: In 2011, people went without shoes at more than 1,000 events in more than 25 countries around the globe. Social Media Recommendation: Toms stresses spreading the word through several events, including One Day Without Shoes. Although very popular, evidence of participation is difficult to locate. Toms does very well with social media interaction by spreading One for One: Facebook: 1,497,289 likes; 23,984 mentions Twitter: 1,498,418 followers; 3,417 tweets However, spreading invitations to participate in the One Day Without Shoes event lacks. As a recommendation Toms should use other methods of social media to spread knowledge of the event by using: Foursquare: 10 check-ins per day, 20 new friends per day Twitter: tweet at least 4 times per day Facebook: double “mentions” Instagram: 4 pictures per day Foursquare, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram will promote the One Day Without Shoes event in a strategic way. Currently, Toms has zero check-ins and friends on foursquare. By using foursquare, followers can locate where the event is taking place, (i.e., businesses and college campuses) and if people are participating near you. With only 3,417 tweets, Tom can post at least 4 times per day about the event, using hashtags, to increase search engine optimization. Although Facebook does have many “likes,” more people need to “mention” Toms’ One Day Without Shoes in order to share the event with Facebook friends by word of mouth. Toms Instagram account only has 23 photos. Posting new photos of people without shoes will spark interest and increase participation of the event. Increasing different social media use for One Day Without Shoes will spread participation and knowledge of the event. It will increase search engine optimization of not only the event, but also the company. Toms is a well-respected company that does well in social media. With a few recommendations, One Day Without Shoes will increase participation and awareness. Thank you for your consideration.
