com Jaycee’s Announce Emerge NNY Scholarship Recipient The Greater Watertown Jaycees are pleased to announce John (“J.W.”) Allen, Belleville, as the recipient of its 2012 Emerge NNY Scholarship. The Jaycees will be presenting J.W. with a $500 scholarship in order to continue his education at Cornell University where he will study Applied Economics and Business Management in the fall. J.W. is a senior at Belleville Henderson Central School and will graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma. J.W. exemplifies leadership both in school and his community. He is President of the New York State FFA, President of the National Honor Society, and the 2012 Class President, and served as captain of his varsity basketball team. In his community he serves as an advisor to the Jefferson County Agricultural Development Board, served on Assemblywoman Addie Russell’s student cabinet, and was recently voted to a term on the Belleville Henderson Central School District Board of Education. Applicants for the Emerge NNY scholarship are reviewed on their extracurricular and school activities, community service, honors and achievements, leadership qualities, and a themed-essay. Ms. Joey Marie Horton, Jaycee and chair for the review committee noted, “"It is with great pleasure that we award this year's Emerge Scholarship to J.W. This year's decision was difficult as we had many great candidates. However, J.W. stands out as a model student who possesses strong leadership skills in not only his academic but his personal life." The Greater Watertown Jaycees is a local chapter of the national Jaycees organization that serves as a professional development organization for people between the ages of 21-39.
