Audition Score Criteria

I. Voice Range/Quality
1. Pitch Accuracy
5-the voice is on pitch consistently throughout the range 4-the voice is on pitch except a few areas in the extremes of the range or passaggio 3-the voice is on pitch except for both extremes of range and passaggio 2-the voice is off pitch often 1-the voice does not match pitch

Tone Strength

5-the tone of the voice is resonant, but not harsh 4-the tone of the voice is resonant, but may get harsh or airy 3-the tone of the voice is pleasant, but often airy 2-the tone of the voice is airy throughout range 1-the tone of the voice is almost inaudible

Vowel Purity

5-the vowels are distinct, relaxed, and resonant 4-the vowels are either unclear, tight, or unresonant 3-the vowels are two of the above qualities 2-the vowels are lazy and unformed 1-the mouth is barely open when singing

Tonal Memory
A-E. Scales and Triads
5-the scale/triad is performed accurately, in tune, and without hesitation 4-the scale/triad is performed well, but with some hesitation 3-the scale/triad is performed with some intonation problems 2-the scale/triad is completed, but with serious intonation problems and much hesitation 1-the scale/triad is attempted, but not completed

Pitch Sequences
The student earns a point (2 points for extended sequences) if the pitches are sung entirely correct.

II.

Literacy
6-the student performs the selections with accuracy and without hesitation 5-the student performs the selections with accuracy, but with some hesitation 4-the student performs the selections with slight inaccuracies 3-the student performs the selections with notable inaccuracy 2-the student performs the selections with much inaccuracy 1-the student attempts the selections, but does not complete them

III. Attitude/Attendance
A. Audition
5-the student responds positively to all requests 4-the student responds positively to most requests 3-the student must have directions repeated 2-the student finally attempts requests after several repetitions 1-the student is resistant to requests

B.

Directors Rating

5-the student is present, focused, and responsive almost all of the time 4-the student is present, focused, and responsive most of the time 3-the student is present at fewer than half of rehearsals 2-the student is resistant on a regular basis 1-the student is argumentative on a regular basis
