Date and time: January 20, 2012; Afternoon (18:00 – 19 :00) Responsible person: Ognjen Stankovic (Ogi) Tackled aims and objectives of event: /
Description of activity: Participants will be divided into two groups. Their task will be to build a “bridge” from ice-cream sticks or any other fragile material, which will be connecting two tables or chairs. Each group will build only half of the bridge, and later two groups should join their halves forming a whole bridge. Bridge should be strong enough to stand a 0.5 liter plastic bottle filled with fluid. Communication will be limited to 3 joint meetings lasting one minute. When we finish our bridge and test it, we shall have the evaluation of how the whole process went. Focus of evaluation should be communication and dynamics within the groups and among the groups. Evaluation should be moderated by prep-team members. The width of the river should be around 35 cm.
Time line: Whole session should last one hour. 18:00 – 18:15 dividing participants into two groups explaining the task, and hand out needed materials 18:15 – 18:40 Building a bridge (every 15 minutes join meeting lasting only 1 minute) 18:40 – 19:00 evaluation. Needed materials – ice cream sticks, glue, paper clips and string.
Whole prep-team should be included in evaluation. This is the most important part of the session, where the groups will really be built, and where we will have an opportunity to really get to know participants). Participants should realize the importance of timely, exact and brief communication and mutual respect. They should identify the eventual problems in communication and to realize that mutual respect is necessary for success of this event.)
