"Catch a Falling Star"

1) INT. ORCHID. DAY.

The camera is focused on the elevator inside of the Orchid Station as the doors open.
Inside we see Jack, Kate, Claire, Sayid and Sawyer.

Sayid:

What is this place?

Jack:

It moves people in time... or something. I don't really know the full scale of it.

Kate:

This is where Ben turned the wheel, then?

Claire:

How does turning a wheel move the Island?

Jack:

Electromagnetivity... it somehow messes with the Earth's gravity... magnetic

field... something...

Sayid:

That doesn't matter, Daniel said we have to act now.

Kate:

If there's enough power in the dam...

Sawyer:
 Let's cut the crap... who's turning the damn thing?

They all reach the end of the hall and see the chamber. Laying there is Richard, dead.
This is the original Richard we saw after he died sending himself back the 109th time as
seen in the previous episode. Jack runs over to him and checks his pulse. He looks up at
everyone and says:

Jack:

He's dead... he wasn't here when Roberta sent Kaname back... he musta got here after we
left for the Epsilon...

Claire:

I wonder what he was doing here.

Sayid:

I don't know, but we don't have time to think about it.

Kate:

What now? Where's this wheel?

Jack:

I ... I'm not sure.

Jack gets out his walkie. He radios Daniel.

Jack:

Where's this wheel?!

Daniel:

You need to destroy the chamber. Put metal objects in it and turn it on to 312 hertz. It
should blow a hole in the side of it. From there, you will be able to get down to the wheel.

Jack:

Got it.

Sayid has already dragged Richard's body out of the chamber and Claire and Kate are
placing metal chairs and bunny cages into the chamber. Jack walks over to the machine and
looks at it blankly. He looks up at Sayid who walks over and almost immediately turns the
settings to 312. Jack smiles at Sayid.

Jack:

I've never been good with technology...

Sayid:
 Good thing I'm here, eh?

Sawyer is across the room looking at some papers on the desk. He notices a watch laying
there. It is the very same watch that Berger had on in 6.2 and it was the same watch that
we saw that Jin was supposed to deliver to LA. The same watch that Michael pawned in NY.
The same watch that Berger somehow acquired and ended back up on the Island. Sawyer
puts it on. Sayid turns to the others.

Sayid:

Stand back everyone! I don't know what's about to happen.

Everyone takes a step back and Sayid pushes the "execute" button. There is a flash in
the Chamber and then sparks fly. The doors open and there is a hole in the side of it.
Jack looks at Sayid:

Jack:

This thing is useless now, isn't it?

Sayid:

Yes. I hope destroying it wasn't a mistake.

Kate looks around Sawyer is gone.

Kate:

Where's Sawyer?!

Jack looks around. He looks around the corner from where the chamber is and he sees
that Sawyer has moved a bookcase away from the wall. He looks down and finds a piece of
paper on the ground, crisp and new looking, that has a DI logo on it and it explains how to
access the vault containing the wheel. Jack rushes into the passageway behind the
bookcase and there is a metal door with a keypad. The door is shut and sealed. Jack turns
around to the group.

Jack:

He's already in there.

Kate's eyes grow large and she looks a bit panicked.

Kate:

I was going to turn it!

Jack:

Like hell you were, I was!

The camera cuts to the cavern that the wheel is in and it is no longer frozen. Sawyer
looks around and he walks up to the wheel. From the hole in the Chamber we hear Kate:
 Kate:

Sawyer! Stop! This is my job! I'm going to do this! I'm the leader!!!

Sawyer turns back towards the hole and the ladder. He says to himself, in a low tone.

Sawyer:

I love you, Freckles.

Sawyer walks up to the wheel and he begins to turn it. The light begins to appear and
Sawyer's face shows that the wheel isn't easy to move. He pushes harder and harder until
eventually FLASH! The camera cuts to Daniel and Juliet as they look into the sky and the
light blinds them. Suddenly, the light vanishes and the Black Rock appears. The camera cuts
back to the Orchid where Kate unshields her eyes from inside the Chamber looking into the
hole. She turns, knowing what had just happened, and leans against the wall. Jack notices
Kate is upset, but he turns to Sayid and Claire and says:

Jack:

He did this for us... so we could move forward... so we aren't going to sit here and feel
sorry for him, do you all understand?

Kate looks at Jack, not a good look, and she stands up.

Kate:

He's right. Claire, we've got to find Aaron. Jack, Sayid... you two find out if we can radio off
this place... Come on Claire.

Kate begins walking down the hall to the elevator and Jack watches on as she doesn't say
goodbye and doesn't look back. Behind Jack we see Sayid crawling into the hole down to the
wheel. The camera cuts to:

2) EXT. TRAVEL AGENCY. CANCUN. MEXICO. DAY.

The camera is focused behind Sawyer as he holds his arm and walks into the front doors
of a travel agency in Cancun. On the street we see hundreds of college-aged spring
breakers and Sawyer looks pretty worn and tired. He walks through the doors and to the
front desk of the agency.

Sawyer:

I need a flight to the United States.

Agent:

American?

Sawyer:

No, Japanese... yes, American!

Agent:
 When do you want to leave?

Sawyer:

What's today's date?

Agent:

March 14th.

Sawyer:

2004, right?

The agent gives Sawyer a strange look and shakes her head "yes." She then notices that
Sawyer has a gunshot wound on his arm. Sawyer sees that she notices.

Sawyer:

Eyes up here, Chiquita... I want a plane out today.

Agent:

I'll need to see identification, sir.

Sawyer reaches into his pockets and realizes that he doesn't have any. It was taken from
him in s3 when he was put in the cages.

Sawyer:

I don't got any.

Agent:

I see... I notice you have a wound.

The agent begins to pick up the phone and Sawyer gets panicked. He turns to run out of
the agency, but the Agent says:

Agent:

I can help you...

Sawyer turns back around. He seems wary of this offer.

Sawyer:

How's that?

Agent:

I have a cousin... he flies people in your... (she looks at his arm) ... condition... to the
United States, undocumented... to Miami.
 Sawyer:

Of all the travel agencies in Mexico, I walk into the corrupt one... looks like my lucks-a-
changin'... How much?!

Agent:

10,000 U.S. dollars.

Sawyer closes his eyes and looks down. A moment passes and he realizes it.

Sawyer:

You got a phone?

The camera cuts to:

3) EXT. JUNGLE CLEARING. DAY.

Kaname, Daniel and Richard are sitting on the edge of the treeline. In the background we
see the Captain (Jacob), removing his heavy naval uniform. Kaname turns to Richard and
says:

Kaname:

109 tries... holy crap.

Richard:

Yeah...

Daniel:

And you had no idea where Jacob came from?

Richard:

The furthest I've ever come back was in the mid 1940's... as Valenzetti... We didn't really
learn about Jacob until the 60's... I mean, we knew the Island was special and had
properties that we weren't aware of, but... Jacob was never a priority. We trapped him in
'62 with the Holmium dust around the cabin...

Kaname:

Holmium?... So Captain Crunch over there has something to do with the Epsilon?

Daniel thinks and he looks at Richard.

Daniel:

How does he go from naval captain to all powerful ghostly undead guy?

Richard:
 We don't know for sure.

Daniel:

Would anyone know?!

Richard:

Maybe Hawking, but... she's gone.

Kaname:

What does she look like?

Richard:

Late '70's... grey hair... British... why?

Kaname looks past Daniel at where the Captain is.

Kaname:

Does she have a fondness of rugged 19th century sea captains?

Richard looks at Kaname a little confused as Kaname simply points to the Captain.
Richard turns around and sure enough, there is Ms. Hawking! She's dressed in 19th century
garb and she is running off into the jungle with Jacob! Richard turns around to Kaname and
looks more confused than ever. He turns back to Hawking and Jacob as they run into the
jungle and the music builds as he starts to say:

Richard:

Holy shi....

He's cut off by:

LOST

4) INT. ORCHID WHEEL. DAY.

Sayid is down in the wheel chamber and he inspecting the wheel. He looks it over and we
see Jack in the background climbing down the ladder. He reaches the bottom.

Jack:

Sayid, what are you doing?!

Sayid:
 I had to see this for myself... it's nothing, but a wooden wheel.

Jack:

Yeah, well, nothing on this Island is what it appears, Sayid.

Sayid:

Ben said it's frozen.

Jack:

What?

Sayid:

Ben said the wheel was frozen when he moved it... but it's not frozen...

Jack:

Well, he moved the Island to the Arctic... maybe this place...

Sayid:

It must be connected to the position where the Island is to move next.

Jack:

Well, it isn't frozen now... which is good news for us... means we aren't in the arctic again.

Sayid:

Yes.

Just then, Jack's walkie goes off.

Juliet:

Jack, you there?!

Jack:

Yeah, Juliet... what's it look like out there?

Juliet:

We haven't moved far enough in the future.

Jack:

Why? How do you know? Did Daniel try radioing out again?!

Juliet:
 No... the Black Rock just arrived.

Jack looks at Sayid and they both look a shocked and disappointed.

Juliet:

And Jack, Richard's here... he needs to speak with you. And someone was injured...

The camera cuts to Richard, Dan and Kaname standing behind Juliet. Daniel and Kaname
are putting on some clothes that belonged to the convicts from the BR that have died. The
camera then cuts to Ji Yeon with Jin over top of her holding her.

Jack:

Richard?!

Sayid turns and he walks over to the wheel. He begins to turn it! Jack drops the walkie
and says:

Jack:

What the hell are you doing?!

Sayid:

She said we're not far enough... it's worth a shot!

Sayid turns the wheel and Jack preps himself. Sayid moves the wheel, but nothing
happens. He collapses to the ground seemingly defeated.

Jack:

We used all the power... come on, Juliet said Richard needs to talk to us.

Jack puts his hand out and Sayid grabs it. The camera cuts to:

5) EXT. DARK TERRITORY. DAY.

Juliet puts her walkie down and walks over to Richard.

Juliet:

What were you doing on that ship?!

Richard:

It's a long story.

Juliet holds up the book "The Lives and Deaths of Richard Alpert."

Juliet:

I know, I read it... but it doesn't say anything about you being on the Black Rock.
 Richard:

I know... I've changed history. We all have... I think this is what needed to happen to break
the loop.

Charlotte:

What loop?!

Richard:

I'll explain when Jack gets here. Everything that happens now... from this point on... I don't
have a clue about. This is all new.

Daniel:

The hostiles... are these people, the ones who arrived... are they the hostiles that attacked
the DI?!

Richard:

No, the hostiles were people I recruited off island. Our objective was to keep the DI in
check... to keep them from exploring the Island in places they shouldn't be... These convicts
were never around when I was here in the 60's.

Charlotte:

Then we're in the 1800's... with no hope... we're stuck here!

Richard:

It looks that way...

Kaname:

But none of this has happened before... so we must have done something right up until this
point, yeah?

Richard looks around, unsure.

Richard:

We need to find Hawking and the Captain...

The camera focuses on Richard as he says this and the camera cuts to:

6) EXT. TEMPLE STATION. DAY.

Walt and Frank are sitting outside of the Temple as they watch Christian take Aaron
inside. Walt turns to Frank and says:

Walt:

This isn't right, Frank...

 Frank:

Let's try pap... or grand-dad... or...

Walt:

I'll stick to Frank for now...

Frank looks away.

Walt:

We can't let him take Claire's kid... whatever he's trying to do... it isn't the right thing.
There's something about him that seems he wants to stop us...

Frank:

How do you mean?

Walt:

He tricked Hurley to jump off that cliff... he made me almost kill you and Christine with a
polar bear... he wanted me to stop Locke!

Frank:

You saw Locke? The man who was dead in the back of my cargo plane when we flew here
from Antarctica?

Walt:

Yeah...

Frank:

...makes sense (he says in a somewhat sarcastic, but truthful way). What do you think he's
trying to stop?

Walt:

I don't know... but it has something to do with Aaron.

Walt looks at Frank. Frank doesn't move. Walt waves Frank off like he is disappointed in
him and Walt starts off towards the Temple where Christian and Aaron just went into. The
camera cuts to:

7) INT. TEMPLE. DAY.

Aaron and Christian make their way to the bottom of the staircase that we saw Locke go
down in 5.12. In the massive underground room is an alter-like table in the middle and
hieroglyphics all over the walls. When Locke was here last, there was a skeleton on the
table that had a broken arm. That is now gone. The DI must have cleared it out. Christian
puts Aaron by the alter and he says:
 Christian:

Something is going to happen outside very shortly and you need to stay in here until that is
over. Do you understand?

Aaron has tears running down his face and he just looks at Christian.

Christian:

Do you understand me?

Aaron shakes his head like he understands.

Christian:

I'm going to be leaving you, remember Aaron, you mustn't leave this room until I come
back. Do you understand me? If you do, you will never see your mommy again.

At that, Aaron's eyes well up with tears and he begins to sob. The camera cuts back to
the shot of Aaron and Christian, but Christian is now gone. Aaron is sitting all alone in the
dark room crying as the camera pulls back to show the emptiness of the room with little
Aaron in the middle scared to death. The camera cuts to:

8) EXT. JUNGLE. DAY.

Kate and Claire are walking through the jungle.

Kate:

This is the spot where Frank took him... I can probably track their movements and we can
find him...

Kate looks at Claire who looks scared and worried. Kate walks over to her and says:

Kate:

We'll find him, Claire... I promise you.

Claire nods. She doesn't look so good.

Kate:

Are you all right? Whens the last time you ate or drank anything?

Claire:

... when Juliet took him a few days ago... at the Barracks....

Kate:

God, Claire, it's a wonder you're still able to walk... stay here, I'm gonna go get us some
fruit and water... all right?
 Claire:

No, I'm fine... we need to find him before they get too far!

Kate:

Claire, it's Frank we're talkin' about... he isn't in the best shape to go too far without
stopping for breaks. I'll be back in 20 minutes... try to rest.

Claire nods and she sits back. Kate gets up and she walks into the jungle. The camera
cuts to Kate in a tree grabbing some mangoes and putting them in her pack. She steps on a
branch and as she does this, it snaps! Kate falls about 15 feet to the ground and lands on
her back. She is coughing and the sun is hitting her directly in the face. Suddenly, there is a
shadow over her and she opens her eyes. Standing over her is Locke!

Kate:

Where the hell've you been?!

Locke:

The Island was turned off... and apparently I was too...

Kate:

How...

Locke:

Sawyer turning the wheel released enough energy for me to quickly speak with you. I have
to hurry... Kate, things are going to happen...

Kate:

What kind of things? I thought this was over!

Locke:

The real test has just started.

Kate looks at Locke like she has had enough.

Locke:

You have to get Aaron back. Kate, you must get Aaron back before it happens.

Kate:

Before what happens?!

Locke:

Before it's too late.

 Kate:

What?

Locke:

Before Jacob becomes...

Claire walks out of the jungle into the clearing and says:

Claire:

Kate! You ready?!

Kate looks at Claire then looks back to where Locke was. He's gone, just like Christian. Kate
turns to Claire as the flash sound begins.

9) --FLASH-- INT. AIRPORT CAFE. DAY.

Kate is sitting at a table and she is holding a cell phone. Someone off-camera yells:

Woman's Voice:

Kate! You ready?!

Kate turns to look at her, but goes back to the phone.

Kate:

I need to know where it is. I'm not asking for much, I just want that one thing... it's
meaningless to you... please.

The voice is muffled on the phone, we can't hear who she is talking to.

Kate:

Forget it Rachel, I'll find it myself....

Kate hangs up the phone and looks upset. The woman who we heard earlier walks over
to her and sits down at the table. We see that it's no one we ever saw before.

Kate:

Save it, Marsha... I know what you're going to say...

Marsha:

Kate, they're looking for you here... For God's sake... why does this toy mean so much to
you?!

Kate:

It belonged to Tom... it's... it's sentimental, but I wouldn't expect you to know what that
is...
 Marsha:

No need to get all bitchy... all I'm saying is that if you want to get out of here and get to
Bali, we got to move now. You've been in Florida for 3 years now... Mars will find you here.

Kate:

He has it somewhere in New Mexico... in a safety deposit box. There are two keys that open
it... it's standard protocol in almost all New Mexico banks... I just need to find which bank
and find the other key... then, Marsha, we can go to Bali.

Marsha:

I don't know how much longer I can wait, Kate...

There is an announcement over the intercom:

Announcement:

Flight 5520 to Albuquerque is now boarding at Gate 3B.

Marsha:

That's us... come on, Kate... oh, and you better ditch that phone, he could be tracking it.

Kate gets up and she walks over to the garbage can and she throws the phone in it and
she walks off towards the gate. We see a sign that says: "Miami International Airport." on
the wall. Kate walks off and we see a hand reach into the garbage can and pull out the
phone. On the wrist, we see the watch that Sawyer put on before turning the wheel. The
camera pans up and we see Sawyer holding the cell phone and watching Kate walk away!
The music builds and cuts to:

10) INT. MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. DAY.

The camera is focused on a small airplane on the auxiliary runway of the airport as a
crate is unloaded from the cargo area. A man walks over to the crate and busts it open and
inside we see Sawyer and two Mexican men. Sawyer hurries out and coughs.

Sawyer:

Try poking some holes in the box next time, Pedro...

Mexican Man:

How'd you know my name?!

Sawyer looks surprised that his stereotypical nickname for a Mexican is actually accurate.

Sawyer:

Uh...
 Sawyer catches his breath and the Mexican man hands Sawyer some clothes. They
appear to be red and blue in color.

Pedro:

Put these on.

Sawyer takes off his shirt slowly over the gun shot wound and the camera cuts to Sawyer
in the inside of the airport walking out of an "Employee Only" doorway wearing a uniform
for "Miami International Staff." As he is walking through the airport he walks right up to the
table of Kate and Marsha without realizing that it is Kate! He quickly turns back and hides
on the other side of the column next to the table. He listens for a moment then we hear
Kate say:

Kate:

He has it somewhere in New Mexico... in a safety deposit box. There are two keys that open
it... it's standard protocol in almost all New Mexico banks... I just need to find which bank
and find the other key... then, Marsha, we can go to Bali.

Marsha:

I don't know how much longer I can wait, Kate...

There is an announcement over the intercom:

Announcement:

Marsha:

Kate ditches the phone and Marsha and her walk off. Sawyer grabs the phone out of the
trash and he turns his back to the column.

Sawyer:

Sweet Jesus... what the hell are the chances...

Sawyer look down then we hear a voice:

Voice:

What the hell are you doing in a Miami Airport uniform?!

Sawyer looks up and we see it is Hibbs! Sawyer looks at him very angrily and says:

Sawyer:

Where's your car?

 The camera cuts to the two of them getting in Hibbs' car outside of the airport. Once
Hibbs gets in and sits down, Sawyer grabs him by the throat!

Sawyer:

What the hell is going on?!!

Hibbs struggles for breath then he finally gets Sawyer's hand off of his neck. He catches
his breath and turns to Sawyer:

Hibbs:

Me?! What the hell are you doing?! You never met me 5 days ago, then you vanish with no
word and today you call me from Cancun to wire you 10G, then you wind up here in a damn
employee uniform!! You tell me, Sawbucks, what the hell is goin on?!

Sawyer sits back for a minute and thinks.

Sawyer:

I disappeared 5 days ago?! Where were we?

Hibbs:

I told you about Sawyer... the real one... in Australia. You said you were gonna track him
down and fly there as soon as your parole was up from the Tampa Job...

Sawyer shoots a look at Hibbs.

Sawyer:

The real Sawyer, huh?!

Hibbs:

Yeah, you all right, James?

Sawyer grabs Hibbs again. He gets right in his face and he says:

Sawyer:

The real Sawyer in Australia!? You son of a bitch!! He was just some guy that owed you
money, you bastard!! I killed the wrong guy!!!

Sawyer lets go of Hibbs and Hibbs just looks at Sawyer like "what the hell are you talking
about?"

Hibbs:

That's where you were? You went to Australia to kill him?! That quickly?! That's why you
had to sneak back into the US... so they didn't catch you breaking parole.... smart.

Sawyer thinks about this for a minute and he realizes that he hadn't actually killed that
guy yet. He looks at Hibbs and lies:
 Sawyer:

Yeah, that's where I went... and guess what... you screwed me again and now you owe me
one...

Hibbs looks at Sawyer a little wary of what's going on. The camera cuts to:

11) EXT. JUNGLE. NIGHT.

The camera follows as Jack and Sayid finally make it to Juliet, Charlotte, Jin, Ji-Yeon,
Dan, Kaname and Richard. Juliet jumps up and sees Jack. She rushes over to him and gives
him a huge hug. This is the first time she has actually seen him since he has been back
from 5.17. Soft music plays until Juliet releases Jack and looks at him and Sayid and says:

Juliet:

Where's James?!

Jack looks down. Juliet looks at Sayid who also looks down. Charlotte looks at Daniel and
it is obvious to everyone that he is the one who moved the Island.

Jack:

He tried to save us all...

Juliet swallows and she looks down. Daniel steps up and says:

Daniel:

There's a good chance he could have wound up somewhere fine... he could be perfectly
ok...

Charlotte hugs on to Daniel. Jack lets go of Juliet's hands and turns to Richard.

Jack:

You are supposed to be dead.

Richard:

... I don't know how to simply explain it, but...

Jack:

They did to you what they did with Kaname two days ago... I got it. What do you need to
talk to me about?

Richard:

You might want to sit down for this...

Jack, who looks tired, sits down. They all sit around a camp-fire and Richard begins to
explain.
 Richard:

Roberta kept talking about the end. We thought the world ended in 2042 because we
haven't ever heard anything from past that time. We had the technology to go back in time
in 2042, so obviously people later than that date would have the technology to come back
to 2042, no one ever had...

Jack:

Yeah, the end of the world, got it.

Richard:

No, the end of time... as we know it. The universe kinda stops and then restarts... it's
like...a glitch in cosmic make-up that causes it to reboot, like a computer.

Sayid:

Finally, a metaphor I can understand...

Richard:

Something along the line had to have gone wrong for this glitch to take place... that's when
we found the numbers... 4,8,15,16,23,42...

Sayid:

The ones Leonard kept repeating... the ones that Hurley feared...

Richard:

Yes... we transferred those numbers, in a very complex way, to match the human genome.
That didn't work. We matched them to variables and equations that would predict the
outcome of almost anything...

Juliet:

The DS.

Richard:

Right... and we though it was the actions of people... that specific actions would change the
course of Destiny. We were wrong. Mr. Widmore...

Charlotte looks down.

Richard:

... with the help of Mr. Paik and Hanso, dug deeper... they actually found that specific
people, based on their hereditary make-up, were the real factors. The factors that
can actually force the hand of Destiny... factors that can actually bypass course correction
and change the outcome of Destiny's set course.
 Charlotte:

You mean, my father... he... he knew this all along?

Richard:

Yes... and in using the Valenzetti Equation, he actually pieced Destiny's map together which
led him to find out that you 6 (he looks at Jack and Sayid) were destined to be on that
plane the day it crashed. He knew that Desmond was meant to be on this Island and cause
the crash. Just in case, he had Abaddon use Bernard to plant a holmium based device on
the plane to ensure it crashed here. Widmore knew, to change destiny, you would have to
start here to do it.

Jin:

When he wanted to use Annie to... to send the Island back.

Charlotte:

To it's original time... he meant... so we would end up here, now.

Charlotte looks up at Daniel.

Charlotte:

He wanted to use her to bypass everything that has happened with the DI the past few
days... he was trying to help us... to save me.

Richard:

Yeah... but we didn't know that until it was too late.

Charlotte looks off and Dan consoles her. Charlotte is in tears as the camera cuts to:

12) EXT. TEMPLE. NIGHT.

Kate and Claire walk up to the exterior of the Temple. Kate looks up and says:

Kate:

This is as far as I can track them...

Claire:

They're probably in there...

Kate:

Nothings ever that easy...

Claire points to the Temple. Kate looks up at it as the flash sound begins...

13) --FLASH-- INT. HOTEL. DAY.

 Kate is sitting in a hotel room as Marsha comes running in the door.

Marsha:

You got mail!

Marsha whips a letter over to Kate. Kate opens the envelope and she looks at what
comes out. It is a key. Kate's eyes light up and she looks at Marsha.

Marsha:

Look at the return address.

Kate flips the letter over and we see that the return address is from "Rachel Brennan."
That is the wife of Tom Brennan, Kate's childhood sweetheart.

Kate:

Why the hell'd she decide to give this to me?!

Kate looks at Marsha, a bit wary of the key.

Marsha:

Isn't there a letter?

Kate opens the envelope and there is a letter. Kate reads it out loud.

Kate:

"Kate, I decided that the only way you would stop harassing me was to just let you have the
plane. Please, take it and just leave me and my family alone. Never contact me about this
or the plane or Tom again. - Rachel Brennan." Well...

Marsha:

Now the bank robbery you planned with Jason doesn't have to happen!! You have one of the
keys... you only need the other one that the bank owner has.

Kate:

Yeah... but he would only open it for Rachel... we'll still need Jason...

Kate looks at the key and seems rather uneasy.

Kate:

You don't think that Mars would have had her send this, do you? He could be trying to trap
me.

Marsha:

Maybe you shouldn't do this then...

 Kate:

No, I'm doing this...

Marsha looks at Kate as she looks at the key and the flash sound starts...

14) --END OF FLASH-- EXT. HOTEL. DAY.

Even though the flash is over, the scene is still set outside of the "New Mexico Queen
Hotel." On the window we see an electronic marquee scrolling the date and it is "6/12/
04." We see Hibbs standing against a car as he calls someone on a cell phone.

Hibbs:

It's done. She got the package.

Sawyer:

Good. Now, get your ass back to Florida.

Hibbs:

Look, I conned that Rachel woman and stole the key... I sent it to Kate like you wanted me
too... we're even.

Sawyer:

No, we're so uneven that you can't even see even from where you're standing. Get back
here, now.

Hibbs:

What was this all about, Sawbucks, who is this Kate?

Sawyer:

An old friend that needed some help. Get back here.

Sawyer hangs up the phone and he looks at the cell phone that he grabbed out of the
garbage at the airport that Kate threw away. He scrolls to Rachel's number and deletes it.
He then crosses her name and address off of a list that he must have tracked from the
phone number. This is how Kate got the first key to the safety deposit box. The music builds
and the camera cuts to:

15) EXT. POST-OFFICE. DAY.

A man is outside of the "Trafalgar Post-office" and he is reading a newspaper, the

"Trafalgar Tribune." The date on the paper is "20, July 2004." The man lowers the paper
and it is revealed to be Sawyer! He looks around as a red pick-up truck pulls into the space
in front of him. A man gets out of the truck and walks past Sawyer into the post-office, but
Sawyer stops him.
 Sawyer:

Excuse me, sir...

The man stops and looks at Sawyer. It is revealed to be Ray Mullen, the farmer who told
Mars about Kate in Australia!

Ray:

What can I do for ya, mate?

Sawyer:

I hear you got a girl workin' on your farm...

Ray:

I uh... what you know about that?

Sawyer:

I know this...

Sawyer hands Ray a wanted sheet with Kate's photo on it. Ray looks at it and he says:

Ray:

Oh my...

Sawyer:

Do yourself a favor and turn her in... the reward is listed as $23,000...

Ray:

Who are you?

Sawyer:

Someone who is very fond of Kate and wants what is best for her...

Ray:

Why not take her in yourself?

Sawyer:

I'm not the law, chief... and I can't get mixed up in this affair... just turn her in. Sooner
than later... oh, and Ray?

Ray:

Yeah?
 Sawyer:

Don't turn her in to a man named Mars. The guy is a total ass.

Ray looks at Sawyer with a bit of suspect.

Sawyer:

And whatever you do, don't tell her about me.

The music builds as Sawyer walks away from Ray and the flash sound begins...

16) --FLASH-- INT. RAY MULLEN'S HOUSE. NIGHT.

The scene picks up where Ray catches Kate sneaking out of the house in the middle of
the night.

Ray:

Hey, Annie, why don't you just stay one more night, eh? I'll drive you to the train station
first thing in the morning. I promise.

Kate:

Ok.

Kate walks out of the room. Ray looks around the corner to make sure she is gone. He
walks up to his phone and pulls the mugshot out of the back of a drawer by the phone. He
dials.

Ray:

Allo? Hi. I've got some interesting information for someone..... no.... no, I don't want to
speak with Agent Mars... is there anyone else?

On the other side of the phone we hear:

Edward Mars:

This is Agent Samwell... what you got?

Ray:

I believe I got a fugitive you've been lookin' for... She's been workin' on my farm now for a
few months. I've waited to turn her in, but she is gonna leave... and I need the money.

The camera cuts to the morning after the phone call and Kate looks out the window and
sees Ray putting gas into his truck. Kate goes to the phone and pulls out a piece of paper
and dials.

Kate:
Marsha... hey, girl... I'm sorry. Mars somehow caught up with me when I had the layover in
Melbourne... I had to vanish. I'm heading to Sydney today... we can finally make that trip to
Bali!... Where are you, where's this number?.... Sydney... I'll call you on this tomorrow.

Ray walks in and Kate quickly hangs up the phone. Ray looks at her and says:

Ray:

You ready?!

Kate:

Thank you for everything, Ray... you're a real good guy...

Ray looks as if he feels guilty for what he's about to do. Kate and Ray walk out the door
as the flash sound starts...

17) --END OF FLASH-- EXT. TEMPLE. NIGHT.

Kate and Claire walk up to the Temple and Kate looks in. She screams:

Kate:

Frank?!

There is silence.

Claire:

Aaron?!

There is silence, but we can hear sounds from inside. Kate and Claire look at each-other
and they run down all the stairs into the Temple and once they reach the bottom, Kate puts
her flashlight on Aaron. He is sitting there in the dark and he is sobbing. Claire looks at him
and says:

Claire:

Aaron? Oh thank God!

Claire runs up to Aaron and she gets about halfway to him and he screams!

Aaron:

No!! Stop!!

Claire stops and looks wide-eyed and confused as she looks at him. Kate walks up and
says:

Kate:

Aaron, baby, it's ok... it's Claire... and me. Come on out.

Aaron doesn't move. He sits there crying.

 Aaron:

I can't.

Kate:

Why?

Aaron:

The bad man said I won't see my mommy again if I leave.

Kate and Claire look at each-other and Kate shines the light around the room. There is no
one else there. Kate looks back at Claire and shrugs her shoulders. Claire runs up to Aaron
and grabs him. Aaron screams again.

Aaron:

No! I have to stay here!

Claire:

Shhhh... Aaron, shhh... listen to me... listen. The bad man, did he say which mommy you
won't see again?

Aaron:

No...

Claire:

Well, you have two now... so if you don't know which he meant, then how could he be right?

Kate looks at Claire and smiles. Claire smiles back.

Claire:

Now come on, let's get out of here...

Claire picks up Aaron and the three of them start out of the Temple. Kate sees a note
sticking out of Aaron's back pocket and her name is on the top of it. Kate looks at Claire and
then looks at the note as the camera cuts to:

18) EXT. JUNGLE. NIGHT.

Jack and Juliet are sitting over Ji-Yeon as Jack examines her. Jin watches on as Richard
stands off to the side and watches. Charlotte, Daniel and Kaname are around the fire
sleeping. Jack turns to Juliet and says:

Jack:

I... there's nothing I can do here. We have no power, we're about a days walk from the
Staff... and the damage... it's been done.
 Jin looks and very weakly says:

Jin:

You can't help her?

Jack:

I'm sorry, Jin... I...

Jack looks down at Jin and Jin looks devastated. Jack looks just as heart-broken.

Jack:

First thing in the morning, Jin... we'll get to the Staff and I will do whatever it is I can.

Jin nods. Jack smiles and he begins to walk away and Richard runs up to him and walks
with him.

Richard:

I know this isn't the right time, but Jack... we need to find Hawking. She maybe our only
hope.

Jack:

I'm done. You do whatever it is you need to do... I'm gonna take her to the Staff tomorrow
and you... you can go pirate hunting on your own time.

Richard stops as Jack keeps walking.

Richard:

Then Sun died in vain... and so did Hurley... and Rose... and everyone else you cared
about.

Jack stops and turns back to Richard with a look of contempt in his eye.

Jack:

What the hell are you talking about?!

Richard:

Rose saved your life so you could do this, Jack. It's already started... Sun's death started
this whole thing off... If you don't finish it, then everyone else dies and this was all for
nothing.

Jack:

I'm listening...

Richard:
 Sun shouldn't have died. Jin was her protector and he gave her a kidney. Those kidneys
matched perfectly... she should have lived, but she didn't.

Jack:

What's your poi....

Richard:

My point is Destiny wanted her to die. Sun's death sparked the chain of events that led us
here... Destiny is attempting to fix the glitch and to do that, every one of you must do
whatever it is you have to do to keep the chain going until it is fixed.

Jack:

What could Sun's death possibly have started?

Richard:

If Sun didn't die then Frank wouldn't have lived. If Frank didn't live then Kate wouldn't have
attacked the Hydra leading to Maxwell resetting the Island.

Jack:

And Hurley? What was the point of his death?

Richard:

I... I uh... I'm not sure.

Jack:

Wow, that's a great theory, Richard... almost had me convinced there for a minute...

Jack turns and he keeps walking off. Richard stops and looks as though he is even
doubting himself. The camera cuts to:

19) EXT. JUNGLE. NIGHT.

Walt and Frank are walking through the jungle and Walt keeps looking at Frank in a
pissed off way.

Walt:

We shouldn't have left him, you know...

Frank:

I don't know anymore...

Walt:
 What do you know, you don't seem to know anything and you only do what others tell you
to do! I want to go back with Jack and them... at least they have a plan!

Frank stops and he looks at Walt. He looks a little hurt by Walt's words.

Frank:

I'm doing whats best for me and you, Walt.

Walt:

Sometimes you have to think about others! These people are my friends! Hurley was my
friend... he died for me! You, you claim to be my grandfather, but you aren't anything more
than a coward!

Frank doesn't say anything. He moves away the tree branches and behind them sits the
Galaga at the pier.

Frank:

I maybe a coward, but I always have a plan...

Walt just looks at Frank as the music builds and the camera cuts to:

20) EXT. JUNGLE. NIGHT.

Kate and Claire are walking through the jungle in the dark and Claire is carrying Aaron,
who is now asleep. Claire turns to Kate and very kindly says:

Claire:

Thank you.

Kate:

For what?

Claire:

Raising him... keeping him safe... loving him like your own.

Kate:

I had to... I mean, who else did he have?

Claire:

Yeah, I know, but it's obvious that you care for him a great deal... this must be very hard
for you.

Kate:

I won't lie, it is, but... when I decided to come back, I knew this day would come... when I
had to give him back to you.
 Claire looks away. There is silence for a minute then Claire looks at Kate and says:

Claire:

Kate, why did you bring him back?

Kate looks down like she doesn't know what to say.

Claire:

Was it because he was on the list?

Kate:

Yeah, something like that...

Claire looks at Kate who now seems a bit distant. The flash sound begins...

21) --FLASH-- INT. KATE'S HOME. LA.

The camera is focused on Kate as she is picking up Aaron's toys in her home post-rescue.
She walks into the kitchen and she opens one of the kitchen cabinets and puts a toy inside
and she stops and stares at something. She pulls out the "prophecy" that Locke gave her at
the playground when he assumed the alias of Jeremy Bentham. The prophecy that he used
to prove to Kate that she is the true leader (as seen in 5.13). She takes it out of the drawer
and she crumples it up and throws it away in the garbage as if Locke's visit hadn't
persuaded her to return. Just then, there is a knock on the door. Kate walks over to the
door and answers it. Standing outside is a woman dressed in business attire. Kate looks at
her and says:

Kate:

How can I help you?

Woman:

Hi, Kate Austen?

Kate:

Yes. Who are you?

Woman:

I'm Lidia Piper from Frederick and Douglas Legal.

Kate:

What do you want?

Lidia:

Can I come in?

 Kate:

Tell me what you want first.

Lidia:

By order of my client, I'm here to collect a blood sample from you and your son.

Kate's face turns to shock.

Kate:

Why do you need to do that?! Who is your client?!

Lidia:

We have reason to doubt the maternity of Aaron, Ms. Austen.

Kate:

Who is your client?!

Lidia:

Carole Littleton.

Kate's jaw drops and the flash sound begins...

22) --END OF FLASH-- EXT. JUNGLE. NIGHT.

Claire and Kate are now sitting around a fire and Aaron begins to wake up. Kate gets up
to go to him, but Claire puts her hand up and says:

Claire:

There's something that I've been waiting to do for a long time... do you mind?

Kate stops and shakes her head "no" as she sits back down. Claire snuggles up to Aaron
and brushes his hair and she begins singing:

Claire:

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket

For when your troubles start multiplyin’

While Claire sings this, Kate lays back and rolls over. She pulls out the note that was
addressed to her and in Aaron's back pocket when they found him in the Temple. She
unfolds it so Claire can't see and she reads it. As she reads it, she begins crying as Claire
smiles and sings to Aaron and the camera softly cuts to:

23) --FLASH-- INT. CAFE. DAY.

Kate walks into a cafe, the same cafe where Libby and Desmond met when she gave him
the Elizabeth. She looks around and she sees what she is looking for: Carole Littleton sitting
at a table. Kate puts on a poker face and she walks over to Carole and she sits down across
from her. Carole smiles at Kate, but Kate doesn't return the kind gesture. Instead she says:

Kate:

What right do you have sending a lawyer to my house to take blood from my son?!

Carole:

He isn't your son, Ms. Austen... and we both know it.

Kate:

How dare you...

Carole puts down a file in front of Kate. Kate looks down at it. On the cover it says,
"Sydney International Police Interchange." Kate looks down at it. Carole says:

Carole:

Open to page 4. It has your physical examination records.

Kate reluctantly opens to the page and looks.

Carole:

5th line down.

Kate looks at it. It explicitly states that she is not pregnant. Kate slams the file shut and
stares at Carole.

Kate:

They made a mistake.

Carole:

Oh? After 5,000 dollars, your friend seemed to disagree.

Carole puts down signed document from Marsha Wonderly, Kate's friend she was to meet
in Sydney. It is testimony that Kate was not pregnant when she was in Australia.

Kate:

This proves nothing... Marsha didn't know. I never told her.

 Carole just looks at Kate and she frowns and she says:

Carole:

Stop it! Stop lying! I know that Aaron is my Claire's baby... I know he's my grandchild! She
was the only woman on the plane who was 8 months pregnant and you weren't even
pregnant when you boarded the bloody plane!!!

People in the cafe look in Carole's direction. A tear falls from Carole's eye.

Carole:

It took me almost 4 years to put this case together. I've looked into your past, Ms. Austen...
you aren't anything more than a murderer and a thief... and now a liar who steals children
from their families!!! I know you killed your father, robbed that bank, killed your friend
Tom...

Kate gets even angrier as Carole mentions Tom. Kate's eyes well up with tears and anger
as Carole continues:

Carole:

You got off easy for those crimes cause you were a celebrity... a star. I found you out and
you aren't in the headlines anymore... you're a falling star and with this news... you'll hit
the ground hard... but I'm willing to catch you. You give me Aaron and I won't press any
charges... none of this will ever be found out by the media...

Kate, defiantly says:

Kate:

No.

Carole stands up and collects her things.

Carole:

Well then, Ms. Austen... I'll see you in court. You will be put in prison for a long... long time
after I'm done with you! Now, I'm giving you one last chance...

Kate thinks, but finally, she says:

Kate:

No.

Carole smugly smiles and she walks out of the cafe. Kate's cell phone rings and we hear
a static and weird backwards speech. Kate's face looks confused, but we clearly hear, "Bring
Him Back, Kate. It's the only way out of this." The voice was unmistakably that of Christian
Shephard! Kate looks down at the evidence against her. She turns back and looks out the
window then finally dials her cell phone. Someone answers and she says:

Kate:
 Ben, I'm in... I'll do it. Tell Jack to pick me up at my house in 20 minutes.

Kate puts her phone down and she begins to cry. The flash sound begins...

24) --END OF FLASH-- EXT. JUNGLE. MORNING.

Kate wakes up and she looks around. She panics for a moment and sits up and looks
around and then she finally sees Aaron and Claire. Claire is feeding him some mango. Claire
looks at Kate and she looks happier than ever. She smiles and says:

Claire:

Morning!

Aaron:

Good morning, mommy!

Kate flashes a fake smile and stands. She looks at her walkie and realizes that the
battery was dead.

Kate:

Has anyone called on this?

Claire:

No. I figured it was dead.... so what now?

Kate:

We start heading off to the others...

Claire:

How do you know where they are?

Kate looks around, almost as if she's making something up.

Kate:

Jack and I made the arrangement before we left. Come on, we've got almost a day's walk
ahead of us.

Claire:

Oh... all right.

Claire starts to get Aaron together and Kate picks up her bag. The three of them head off
into the jungle. The camera pans down to where Kate was lying and the note is there. The
camera cuts to:

25) INT. SYDNEY AIRPORT. DAY.

 The camera is focused on Cindy as she walks out from behind the ticket counter in the
Sydney Airport. She stops at the desk and says to the attendant:

Cindy:

What's the date, Sonya?

Sonya:

It's... July 21st.

Cindy:

Thank you!

Cindy walks off and the camera follows until it stops on Sawyer who is standing in line
holding a magazine up to his face hiding from Cindy. He sees that she has passed and he
lowers the magazine and steps up to the agent at the window.

Sawyer:

I need a ticket to Los Angeles.

Sonya:

Well, sir, the next one we have flying out is our 815 at 14:15...

Sawyer jumps and he cuts her off:

Sawyer:

No! No.. no...

Sonya looks at him strangely.

Sawyer:

No, I'll take the one after that.

Sonya:

Fine.. sir? Um, flight 316 leaves here at 17:05. Does that work for you?

Sawyer:

Yeah, that's fine.

Sonya prints the ticket and she hands it to Sawyer. The camera cuts to later that
afternoon and Sawyer is sitting at the airport bar. Sawyer is on his cell phone. He says:

Sawyer:
 I had to do what I had to do... this way, she won't get on the plane. Ray will turn her in
anytime now and she'll be sent back to the States before September... Remember, tell no
one about this. Oh, and Libby... be careful.

He was on the phone with Libby!! Sometime between his return and now (March 14-July
21st), he has been in contact with her! A man sits down next to him and says:

Man:

That's a fine watch you have there.

Sawyer:

Thanks...

Man:

Where'd you get that fine piece of art? It looks to be one of a kind...

Sawyer is about to speak, but he is cut off...

Man:

...make that one of two of a kind...

Sawyer turns and looks at the man. The camera pans up and it is Isaac of Uluru!!!

Sawyer:

Who the hell are you?

Isaac:

The name's Isaac, you must be James.

Sawyer:

How do you...

Sawyer jumps back and looks around. He gets in Isaac's face and says:

Sawyer:

How do you know my name... who are you?!

Isaac:

I'm not a very happy man. Where'd you get the watch, James?

Sawyer:

I bought it... in New York a few months ago.

Isaac:
 I happen to know that particular model hails from South Korea and hasn't even been
manufactured yet... so I will ask you again, James... where did you get that watch?

Sawyer blankly looks at Isaac.

Isaac:

You were on the Island, weren't you?

Sawyer's expression turns to shock and he stands up and begins to walk away. Isaac
turns in his chair and says:

Isaac:

When is the Island, James?

Sawyer stops and turns around. He looks at Isaac and then marches back to him very
angrily.

Sawyer:

What do you know about the Island?!

Isaac:

Apparently not everything I thought I did. Jin never makes his delivery to Los Angeles, does
he? Damn it, Sun is supposed to stop him from getting on that plane...

Sawyer:

What?! How do you...

Isaac:

Shes supposed to run away leaving him to miss the flight.

Sawyer gets real angry.

Sawyer:

Look, I don't know what you're talkin' about, but...

Isaac:

When were you before you turned the wheel, James?

Sawyer:

I don't have time for...

Isaac:

When were you?!

 Sawyer gives up.

Sawyer:

It was reset. Sometime in the past, I don't know. I moved it to get them to the future, but I
haven't heard from them.

Isaac:

That's because they changed the course of Destiny...

Sawyer:

What?!

Isaac:

The factors are making the changes... and if I didn't know better... I'd say they are well on
their way.

Sawyer:

What do you know?

Isaac:

History. The Black Rock still went missing, you didn't change that... then again, how could
you? You aren't a factor.

Sawyer:

Stop with the freakin' riddles! What do you mean, if you didn't know better?!

Isaac:

I'm trying to tell you, mate. The Black Rock still makes it to the Island... which means Jacob
still takes his role... which means the meteor is going to hit. If your friends are still on that
Island, well... anywhere near the impact site... they're as good as dead.

Sawyer's face turns to disbelief. He grabs Isaac and says:

Sawyer:

Not if I stop them from gettin' on that plane!

Isaac:

You can't change that, you're not a factor. No matter what you do, James, they're gonna
die...

This is proven because Sawyer tried to have Kate captured before the flight, but Ray
waited. Destiny still got Kate on 815.
 Sawyer:

No!

Isaac:

Unless you have a way to catch a falling star, James... I'm afraid so...

Sawyer's face turns to horror as he lets go of Isaac and turns around looking helpless.
The music builds and the camera cuts to:

26) EXT. JUNGLE. MORNING.

Jack and Jin have Ji-Yeon on a make-shift stretcher as they make their way to the Staff
Station. Juliet is with them and she looks up in the sky and something catches her
attention. She says:

Juliet:

Hey! What's that?

Jack and Jin look up. The camera cuts to what they are looking at. There is what appears
to be a bright star in the sky. Jack says:

Jack:

Strange...

The camera cuts to:

27) EXT. JUNGLE. MORNING.

Daniel, Charlotte, Richard and Kaname are making their way through the jungle and
Charlotte looks up and spots the same thing Juliet sees.

Charlotte:

What's that?!

Richard looks up. His face quickly shows dismay. Suddenly they hear something in front
of them. The camera cuts to it and it is Hawking! Richard sees her and says:

Richard:

Ms. Hawking!

She stares at Richard and she blankly says:

Ms. Hawking:

Who the bloody hell are you and how do you know my name?!

The camera shows Richard's expression of "oh crap." Hawking looks up into the sky as
the camera cuts to:
28) EXT. JUNGLE. MORNING.

Kate and Claire are walking with Aaron and Kate looks upset and finally she blurts out:

Kate:

I lied. I'm not a good person, Claire.

Claire:

About what?

Kate:

I didn't come back because of the list... or because of what Locke said... I came back to
save my own ass... Claire, your mother tried to take Aaron away from me. She threatened
to put me in prison if I didn't give him to her.

Claire looks at Kate and her face shows a bit of sickness and anger. Claire turns away
from Kate and says:

Claire:

You're right... you aren't a good person. When we get to Jack you'll stay away from me and
Aaron, understand?!

Kate nods and she seems a bit hurt. Claire turns away and keeps walking. Kate looks
down and leads the way. Aaron looks into the sky and he sees the meteor as the camera
cuts to:

29) EXT. JUNGLE. MORNING.

The camera is focused on the trees, then it pans down to the note that Kate left behind
at the campsite. It is a map. A map that appears to lead to the center of the crater on the
Island! The camera pulls back over top of the Island to reveal that they are headed right for
the massive crater and in the sky over the Island we see the massive fireball falling towards
the Island! The music builds and the camera cuts to:

Vo: Sawyer needs to top that flight...
