July 19 to August 23 Offered at RedLine: http://redlineart.org/

We are looking for people who like to write, and who are interested in aging, for an unusual book project. The project centers upon a unique collection of photographs of the elderly by artist Laura Merage that explores diverse and often overlooked dimensions of older lives: e.g., work and leisure, creative expression and mundane chores, social lives and solitude. We hope to gather together an equally diverse group of writers to compose text that, in response to the photographs, paints a rich, multifaceted portrait of life in later years, through fiction, poetry, memoir, history, ethnography, and philosophical reflection. The group will meet from 68 p.m. on Thursday evenings for six weeks, from July 19 to August 23, to draft, share, and revise our writing. In the end, we will create a beautiful, jointly authored coffee table book that combines photography and words. So, if you enjoy writing and are interested in the theme of age, or work with the elderly, or do research on aging, or are yourself an older person, we encourage you to contact John Tiedemann (at John.Tiedemann@du.edu) to find out how to take part. The writing for this project will be developed through a collaborative workshop held at RedLine, a diverse urban laboratory where art, education, and community converge. The cost of the six-week workshop is $150.00, payable at the first workshop meeting. You do not need to be an experienced writer to take part in this project.
