II. Prefer to be poor than rich – v.17 ‘thou sayest” – sayest claim “increased with goods” – self attained success “have need of nothing” – self sufficiency God is more concerned about our spiritual riches than our physical riches. Matthew 6:19-21, I Tim 6:9-10
Laodicea was founded by Antiochus II and names after his wife Laodike The city is great and wealthy and is the center of industry. Famous for the fine black wool and the Phygian powder for the eyes The church became so engrossed with materialism and failed to consider about their spiritual life Preference - greater liking, one's first choice I. Prefer to be lukewarm than hot - 15-16 It is a characteristic of being barely or moderately warm Such characteristic is true to many christians in terms of service SSS Christians: - Self satisfied saints - self sufficient saints - shell sealed saints SERVICE SEEKING SAINTS When we are too busy with earthly business and have no time for God’s business – then we are just making monkey business! Acts 2:41, 42, 46
Acts 2: 44-45 They sold their earthly possessions and choose to be materially poor in order to become spiritually rich Jesus counsels of "gold tried in the fire" which speaks of "true riches" with no rust and moth that can corrupt nor thieves that can steal III.
