KIAWAH TECHNOLOGIES
Oracle E-Business Suite has a separation of tasks when processing transactions that occur within the application suite. This separation of tasks is referred to as layers or tiers.
KIAWAH TECHNOLOGIES
The three-tier architecture that comprises an Oracle E-Business Suite installation is made up of the database tier, the application tier, and the desktop tier.
KIAWAH TECHNOLOGIES
The Desktop Tier provides a single point of access to HTML-based applications, Forms-based applications, and Business Intelligence applications.
KIAWAH TECHNOLOGIES
The application tier has a dual role: hosting the various servers and service groups that process the business logic, and managing communication between the desktop tier and the database tier. This tier is sometimes referred to as the middle tier.
KIAWAH TECHNOLOGIES
Three servers or service groups comprise the basic application tier for the Oracle R12 E-Business Suite: Web Services, Form Services and Concurrent Processing Server
KIAWAH TECHNOLOGIES
The Web services component of the Oracle Application Server processes requests received over the network from the desktop clients:
Web Listener (Oracle HTTP Server powered by Apache) Java Servlet Engine (OC4J) Oracle Process Manager (OPMN)
KIAWAH TECHNOLOGIES
Forms services in Oracle E-Business Suite R12 are provided by the Forms listener servlet and provides the ability to run services over HTTP and HTTPS.
Forms are hosted through the servlet and associated runtime engine, mediating the communication between the desktop client and the Oracle database server, displaying client screens, and initiating changes in the database according to user actions.
KIAWAH TECHNOLOGIES
Concurrent Processing is an Oracle E-Business Suite feature that allows noninteractive and potentially long-running functions to be executed efficiently, alongside interactive operations.
KIAWAH TECHNOLOGIES
The database tier contains the Oracle database server that stores and manages all the data maintained by Oracle E-Business Suite. This includes the various types of file in which the tables, indexes, and other database objects for the system physically resides, as well as the executables.
KIAWAH TECHNOLOGIES
The apps/apps_st/appl(APPL_TOP) directory contains the product directories and files for the Oracle R12 E-Business Suite
KIAWAH TECHNOLOGIES
The apps/apps_st/comn (COMMON_TOP) directory contains Java classes, HTML pages, and other files and directories used by multiple products
KIAWAH TECHNOLOGIES
The apps/tech_st/10.1.2 directory contains the ORACLE_HOME used for the Oracle E-Business Suite technology stack tools components
KIAWAH TECHNOLOGIES
The apps/tech_st/10.1.3 directory contains the ORACLE_HOME used for the Oracle E-Business Suite technology stack Java components
KIAWAH TECHNOLOGIES
50
The db/apps_st/data directory is located on the database node machine, and contains the system tablespaces, redo log files, data tablespaces, index tablespaces, and database files
KIAWAH TECHNOLOGIES
51
The db/tech_st/11.1.0 directory is located on the database node machine, and contains the ORACLE_HOME for the Oracle 11g database
KIAWAH TECHNOLOGIES
Oracle E-Business Suite files are stored in the <dbname>APPL directory, which is generally known as the APPL_TOP directory.
The APPL_TOP directory contains:
