The draft Terms of Reference for the Board were introduced and agreed, subject to minor revision. An official from the Department of Energy and Climate Change presented plans for the development of a UK nuclear strategy in 2012. An official from the Government Office for Science presented an outline of a forthcoming review of the nuclear R&D landscape in the UK. The majority of this first meeting of the Board was given over to each member to set out their personal vision for the impact that the Board might make on nuclear R&D in the UK. The Chairman summarised the first meeting of the Nuclear Research and Development Advisory Board and set out the likely agenda for the second meeting to be held on 24 April 2012.
