I am writing to voice my support for Glenstone and its request for a connection to public sewer. Glenstone is an emerging treasure for the entire community and for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). By allowing Glenstone to connect to public sewer, it will enable Glenstone to expand in an environmentally responsible way. Please support this request. Glenstone is still a young institution, but it is already well known and respected in the art community throughout the United States and Europe. Thousands of visitors have taken advantage of its free admission policy. MCPS is working with Glenstone leaders to provide more art experiences for our students and exploring ways for them to support our visual arts programs. Students have toured the exhibits and Glenstone has provided materials to teachers to prepare students for the experience. While still a developing partnership, we believe that many of our students will benefit from this relationship, especially if Glenstone is permitted to expand. The need for private partnerships is increasingly important given the economic climate. Just as Strathmore welcomes students to experience first-class music and performances, Glenstone would enable our young people to experience extraordinary art and architecture in a natural setting. The expansion of Glenstone is a special opportunity for Montgomery County and I hope that the Council will concur and approve the connection to public sewer. We are fortunate to have Glenstone in our community and I look forward to continuing to work with them to benefit our students for years to come. Sincerely, Joshua P. Starr, Ed.D.
