Newcomer Rick Baker takes Hannitys slot at WSIC

The man behind the new show on WSIC 1400 AM is trying to change the tone of conservative talk radio. Earlier this week, North Carolina newcomer Rick Baker replaced Sean Hannitys syndicated program at the Statesville radio station. Im having fun getting to know the people here, he said. In order to garner interest in the show and to highlight local issues, Baker said he plans to do different activities to gain a rst-person perspective on different topics. In a recent story about the homeless, Baker stood on the side of a road with a sign stating he was homeless and looking for work.

Baker has been on and off the talk radio airwaves since the 1990s. His rst stint was on KIQX in Durango, Colo., to promote the newspapers he owned. He later started another show in San Diego, where he wrote his latest book, The Tears of a Father. When Baker and his wife moved to North Carolina earlier this year, Baker received a call from WSIC owner Mark Sanger about the possibility of starting a show on the station. Sanger said the show has been well-received so far. He said WSIC originally tried to arrange an agreement with Hannity to air the show in sections before and after The Rick Baker Show, but was unable to come to an agreement. The show is more popular

than Baker originally expected. He said he gets around 50 calls a show, and 20 would be considered a good response. Like many, Baker is unhappy with the direction of the country. While he describes his show as heated, he said he doesnt place the blame on a single person. I really believe the nation as a whole has been divided to conservatives versus the liberals, he said. People are ready to snap. Lets unite as best we can about intelligent issues. Baker said hes a conservative, but he is more interested in educating people on the facts than riling them up. I just want them to know what they believe, he said. The Rick Baker Show is on from 3-6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Rick Baker talks about his new radio program on WSIC. Bakers program from 3-6 p.m. replaced the Sean Hannity program that the station used to air. Baker hopes to provide a strong voice in politics that challenges the views and arguments of both conservatives and liberals.
