We have basically just covered the abstract definition of what is a muslim (small m).

The way of life that God has ordained for mankind is submission and obedience to God. This has been the rule for mankind since the day Adam was created. God created Adam from the earth. God then created Eve from the rib of Adam and they both dwelt in the Garden of Eden. Satan tempted Adam, who disobeyed God and both Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden. From Adam to Noah, mankind fell into disobedience to God. Noah was commissioned by God to warn his people and because of their disobedience, they were drowned in the Great Flood. It is important to note that the cause of the flood was man's disobedience to God. Though God never appeared to man, His messenger, Noah, was to be obeyed. From Noah, mankind had a fresh start. Mankind had been cleansed of idol worship and associating partners to God. As mentioned in the Bible, many generations of people sprang up and God constantly sent warners, prophets and messengers. Among these people were Lot, Abraham, Issac, Ismael, Jacob, Solomon, David, Joseph and Moses. Each one of these men were sent by God to remind people that they were to worship God, alone, and put off disobedience and obey God through His messengers. Disbelief in God, paganism, idolatry and hedonism were common for the people and God constantly left them guidance through books, warners, prophets and messengers to remind people of their responsibility to God. These men taught mankind that the most important objective of all men and women was to worship God, the Lord of the heavens and the earth through obedience and submission to the Creator. Amongst most Jews, Christians and Muslims, from Adam to Moses there is much agreement. The stories are very similar. The morals are the same. So hopefully, the basis for the common perspective that Muslims share with both Christians and Jews has been explained. We all believe in a Creator. Everything else is creation. One god. One God. Always strict monotheism. If we were alive during the time of Noah, Abraham or even Moses, as long as we were submitting to God and obeying His messenger, you were muslim (one who submits). So to a Muslim, all of God's messengers, prophets and warners, from Adam to Moses and all in between, were all muslim (they submitted to God) and they all taught Islam (submission to God). All of mankind are the children of Adam. We all share a common brotherhood. We are all to love each other and respect each other. The door to salvation for every person is always open. This door is defined as 1) Recognizing the monotheistic God as our Creator and to whom we shall all return. and 2) Obedience to the will of God. This has been the supreme law, unchanged since Adam was created. In His infinite Mercy, God has not changed or altered the key to salvation. It has been a constant since the dawn of man. Thus, the way of life that God has ordained for mankind is submission and obedience to God. This sentence in Arabic is called Islam.
