TIPS TO KEEP DRIVERS ALERT ON LONG TRIPS
Get a full night’s sleep and leave in the morning. Let the kids know ahead of time that stops will be made when the driver is tired — not when they want to stop. Allow extra time in case of unanticipated delays such as tra c or construction. Plan at least one long rest stop along the way. Stop every few hours to stretch and get some fresh air. Switch drivers every couple of hours. Eat healthy snacks every few hours — greasy fast food will only make you feel tired. Don’t fight fatigue. Pull over immediately if you feel tired. Don’t rely on ca eine to keep you awake, it only provides a temporary spike in energy. Let the person who isn’t driving handle the kids. The driver needs to focus on the road.
