La culture de Lcole de design Nantes Atlantique a considrablement volu. Sil sagissait nagure de former des cratifs , notre responsabilit est dornavant engage dans la professionnalisation des tudes. Les taux demploi de nos jeunes diplms sont aujourdhui nos principaux indicateurs de russite. Malgr une conjoncture conomique particulirement difficile, nos tudiants continuent de se placer de faon remarquable et les dbuts de carrire ltranger deviennent de plus en plus frquents. Le travail de rapprochement avec les entreprises qui est au cur de la pdagogie porte ses fruits. Partenariats lors de projets de cration et dinnovation, stages en entreprises, apprentissage, confrences, jurys de professionnels sont devenus pour nos tudiants autant doccasions de rencontrer des designers et de se projeter sur un 1er emploi et / ou sur des volutions de carrire. La fonction du designer a galement beaucoup volu. Il y a encore quelques annes, nous formions des techniciens de la cration de produits et de services. Aujourdhui, nos diplms sont des vritables managers de projets de cration et dinnovation, des designers qui ont appris le partage des ides, qui sont capables de mettre autour de la table des ingnieurs, des marketeurs, des philosophes, des sociologues, et tous ceux qui se posent les questions du dveloppement et du progrs. Les problmatiques dinnovation sont dornavant au cur de la stratgie de nombreuses entreprises confrontes la globalisation. Le designer est devenu un personnage-cl de cette stratgie. Si nous ne doutons pas du talent des designers qui sortent de ltablissement, il nous reste montrer que leur parcours professionnel va les mener vers les fonctions stratgiques correspondant lenjeu du design et de linnovation dans les entreprises. Les designers que nous prsentons dans ce 4e numro dImpact(s) ont toutes les qualits pour cela. Leurs ralisations remarquables, leur enthousiasme vident et leur intelligence reprsenter et dfendre leurs ides sont le tmoignage des perspectives professionnelles nouvelles qui soffrent aux designers. The pedagogical culture of Lcole de design Nantes Atlantique has changed considerably over the years. Whereas in the past, our aim was to train creative people today we are committed , to making our courses increasingly career-oriented. The current employment rates of our graduates are key indicators of success. Despite a particularly harsh economic climate, our students continue to find jobs with remarkable ease, and more and more of them begin their careers abroad. Our work to build relationships with businesses, which is at the very heart of our teaching approach, is paying off. Professional partnerships in creative and innovative projects, internships, apprenticeships, conferences, examining boards made up of professionals all of these things constitute opportunities for our students to meet designers and plan their first job or, perhaps, their career development. The role of the designer has also moved on significantly. Only a few years ago, we were training technicians who created products and services. Today, our graduates are real managers capable of leading creative and innovation projects, designers who have understood the importance of sharing ideas, who can bring together engineers, marketers, philosophers, sociologists, and all those who are concerned with development and progress. Questions of innovation are now the strategic focal point of many businesses faced with globalization. The designer has become a key player in this strategy. Whilst we are all too aware of the talent of the designers coming out of our school, we now have to show that their professional experience will lead them into strategic positions in line with the importance of design and innovation in companies today. The designers who are presented in this 4th issue of Impact(s) have everything it takes to do just that. Their remarkable achievements, their obvious enthusiasm and their intelligence in representing and defending their ideas are a testament to the new job prospects available to designers. Their success is the success of the whole school, that is to say the teaching staff, management, employees and all those involved with Lcole de design Nantes Atlantique: administrators, companies, institutions, the Nantes St-Nazaire Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rgion des Pays de la Loire, Conseil gnral de Loire-Atlantique, and Mtropole de Nantes. The clean lines represent the bare essentials, with no superfluous details
Divers can now combine safety and elegance, even 100m under water! With the very stylish On Time 500 watch, dedicated to occasional water sports enthusiasts, Tribord has entered the market of electronic products with a strong visual identity. This watch is a strategic product, it embodies the brands future direction and innovations, explains Yang Bai, who was responsible for the watchs design. I had to put Tribords values [such as audacity and joy] into shape. Thus the clean lines represent the bare essentials, with no superfluous details. For the detailing on the strap, I played with the contrast between matt (for a sporty feeling) and shiny (for a fashionable and decorative effect). The creative process was a challenge as I worked with an engineer and a product manager, both of whom had no experience of design. I also made some improvements to the aesthetics of the watch, using fashion colors and the brand colors, in order to reinforce the balance between a sporty look and the idea of leisure. Yang initially proved himself working on luggage and surfboard covers made by Oxylane, where he began working when he left school. Now responsible for designing watches, eyewear, electronic products and miscellaneous sports items, he ensures the product range is in line with the brands philosophy. Today, Yang dreams of following in the footsteps of Jonathan Ive and bringing a modern vision of design to the general public.

Les plongeurs allient dsormais sret et lgance, mme 100 m sous leau ! Avec la montre On Time 500 trs tendance, ddie aux amateurs occasionnels de sports nautiques, Tribord entre sur le march des produits lectroniques avec une identit visuelle forte. Cette montre est un produit stratgique, elle porte lespoir de la marque, ses innovations , souligne Yang Bai, qui a ralis le design de la montre. Je devais mettre en forme les valeurs de Tribord , comme laudace, la joie. Ainsi, les lignes trs pures reprsentent lessentiel, sans superflu. Pour les finitions du bracelet, jai jou sur le contraste entre le mat pour la sensation sportive et les brillances tendances et dcoratives. La cration fut un dfi car jai travaill avec un ingnieur et un chef produit, tous deux sans exprience du design. Jai aussi fait voluer la philosophie de la montre, avec des couleurs de la mode et des couleurs de la marque, afin de renforcer cet quilibre entre aspect sportif et notion de dtente. Yang a dabord fait ses preuves sur la bagagerie et les housses de surf dOxylane, o il est entr ds la sortie de lcole. Dsormais responsable de la conception des montres, lunettes, produits lectroniques et de divers sports, il garantit la cohrence et la pertinence des crations. Yang rve maintenant de suivre les pas de Jonathan Ive et dapporter une vision moderne du design au grand public.

Pour offrir cette personnalisation, nous devions tenter de comprendre la perception et les besoins du patient
La prothse Concept leg offre un bien-tre nouveau aux personnes amputes dune jambe. Elle innove par sa technique de moulage personnalis (par la socit Aqualeg), et son habillage aux possibilits multiples cr par Audrey Bnteau et Nicolas Libeaut. Pour offrir cette personnalisation, nous devions tenter de comprendre la perception et les besoins du patient. Cest une partie de son corps, quil doit pouvoir montrer sil en a envie confie Audrey. Une tche ardue, mais qui nous a permis de librer notre crativit, comme la technique tait dj tablie . Pour la premire collection, ils marquent les esprits avec une forte personnalisation : pour les hommes, le Plexiglas vert thermoform recouvrant le mollet est ajour selon les formes dun tatouage maori. Ce dessin ressort en noir de la sous-couche de carbone. Pour les femmes, cest de la dentelle. Audrey et Nicolas, qui ont cr Foxdesign peu aprs leur diplme, conoivent aussi des produits plus techniques et industriels, tels que des oliennes, du matriel mdical, ou encore un gnrateur dazote GN2 labellis par lObserveur du design en 2011. Audrey labore la stratgie globale et sappuie sur sa sensibilit pour crer les produits, Nicolas dveloppe les projets et en assure le suivi de fabrication grce sa culture technique. lavenir, ils esprent intgrer un ingnieur, un commercial et un graphiste, pour conforter leur savoir-faire.

In order to offer a personalized service, we had to try to understand the feelings and needs of the patient
The Concept leg prosthesis offers amputees a new level of comfort. It is a real innovation thanks to its customized moulding technique (developed by Aqualeg), and its highly adaptable cover created by Audrey Bnteau and Nicolas Libeaut. In order to offer a personalized service, we had to try to understand the feelings and needs of the patient. Its a part of their body that they should be able to display if they feel like it, explains Audrey. Not an easy task, but one which allowed us to free up our creativity, as the technical side was already done. For the first collection, they came up with two striking and highly customized designs: for men, a green thermoformed Plexiglas model that covers the calf and is decorated with a maori tattoo motif. The pattern stands out in black on the carbon sub-layer. For women, they opted for a lace effect. Audrey and Nicolas, who created Foxdesign shortly after graduating, also design more technical and industrial products, such as wind turbines, medical equipment, and even a GN2 nitrogen generator which was certified by the 2011 Observeur du design. Audrey decides on the overall strategy and uses her sensibility in creating the products, while Nicolas develops the projects and looks after the manufacturing process thanks to his technical know-how. In the future, they hope to build up their company and know-how by taking on an engineer, a sales person and a graphic designer.

La structure de la pyramide inverse, suspendue dans les airs, fut le plus difficile concevoir
Comme suspendues, des pyramides inverses recouvrant quatre columbariums font cho aux tours de verre voisines du quartier parisien de La Dfense. Il sagit dun nouvel espace funraire, 1er prix du Souvenir cinraire attribu par Funraire Magazine et le Salon Funraire Paris 2011. Cest le projet de tous les superlatifs : en budget, en taille avec 1000 m2 et 192 cases de dpt durnes intgrer, en rapidit car nous devions rpondre en un mois lappel doffre de la ville de Puteaux , confie Samuel Brevet, en charge du dossier chez Le Choix Funraire, qui a conu le site avec la mairie et une entreprise de menuiserie. Aux angles du jardin, se dressent ces columbariums, aux tonnelles symboliques : une premire pyramide pointe vers le ciel, avec des lattes parallles pour voquer la protection. Dessus, une seconde pyramide pointe vers le bas, les lattes orientes vers le centre, crant un puits de lumire pour suggrer louverture. La structure de la pyramide inverse, suspendue dans les airs, fut le plus difficile concevoir , avoue Samuel. Pour ce projet global aux espaces intimes et ouverts, il lui fallait aussi crer un rythme entre les diffrentes parties du jardin. Entr dans lentreprise aprs ses tudes, Samuel y conoit les monuments funraires. Depuis 2009, il est responsable des projets cinraires. lavenir, il espre travailler nouveau sur des projets globaux de ce type, la complexit sduisante.

The structure of the inverted pyramid hanging in mid air was the most complex part to design
As if suspended, inverted pyramids covering four columbaria echo the neighbouring glass towers of Parisian business quarter La Dfense. The building in question is a new funeral site, which was awarded 1st prize for a Cinerary Memory by Funraire Magazine and the 2011 Funraire Paris, an international funeral tradeshow. Its a remarkable project in many ways: in terms of budget, size (1000 m2 and 192 niches for funeral urns), and time-scale, since we only had one month to prepare our bid for the city of Puteauxs call for tender, reveals Samuel Brevet, the designer in charge of the project at Le Choix Funraire, who designed the site in conjunction with the local council and a carpentry company. In each corner of the garden the columbaria tower up, with their symbolic barrel vaults: a first pyramid points towards the sky, with parallel supports that give a feeling of protection. Above, a second pyramid points downwards, with supports pointing towards the centre, creating a well of light that gives a feeling of open space. The structure of the inverted pyramid hanging in mid air was the most complex part to design, admits Samuel. For this project, which included both private and public spaces, it was necessary to create a harmonious balance between the different parts of the garden. Samuel joined the company after his studies to design funeral monuments and, since 2009, he has been in charge of cinerary projects. He loves the challenge of such a complex project and, in the future, he hopes to work on other all-round projects of this kind.

Ce tour du monde nous a sensibiliss sur le potentiel cratif du recyclage


Cette lampe en forme danimal de compagnie montre quon peut faire du beau avec du recycl , souligne Amandine Carrato, qui la cre avec son associ Sebastian Dittus, designer allemand. My Little PET, laurat du Prix du design durable 2011 dcern par Coca-Cola et le magazine Noplante, est fait de bois et, en guise dabat-jour, dune bouteille en plastique (du PET : polythylne trphtalate) que chacun peut remplacer, pour changer de forme ou de couleur, et laisse reconnaissable pour veiller la responsabilit cologique de tous . Cette lampe, premier lment de leur gamme de petit mobilier fait de bois et dobjets recycls fabrication rgionale reflte notre design co-pens et co-conu , affirme Amandine. Trouver un artisan professionnel rpondant la qualit voulue fut compliqu. Un autre dfi, grer le projet de lide la distribution . Amandine tait intgre chez Dcathlon auparavant. Aprs son diplme, elle y tait designer en chaussures pour la marque Newfeel. Puis elle a cr avec Sebastian lagence dia &co, avant de senvoler avec lui pour un tour du monde dun an de design interculturel, ce qui nous a sensibiliss sur le potentiel cratif du recyclage . Aujourdhui, ils sont designers industriels pour, entre autres, Dcathlon et Vaude, et crent du mobilier pour le Site-Mmorial du Camp des Milles. Ils esprent poursuivre cette aventure interculturelle, cologique et industrielle.

This world tour made us realize the creative potential of recycling


This pet-shaped lamp demonstrates that you can make something beautiful out of recycled objects, explains Amandine Carrato, who created it with her partner Sebastian Dittus, a German designer. My Little PET, winner of the 2011 Sustainable Design Prize awarded by Coca-Cola and the magazine Noplante, is made from wood and has a plastic bottle for a lampshade. The bottle is made of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) which can be replaced to change the shape or color of the lamp. It is immediately recognizable as a plastic bottle to help awaken peoples conscience of their environmental responsibility. This lamp, the first piece in their range of locally-produced decorative furnishing made from wood and recycled objects, reflects our ecological design approach, says Amandine. Finding a professional craftsman who could meet our strict quality requirements was very difficult. Another challenge was managing the project from the idea right through to the distribution stage. Previously, Amandine worked for Decathlon. After her Masters degree, she designed shoes for their Newfeel brand. Then she created the agency dia &co with Sebastian, before jetting off with him on a one-year round-the-world intercultural design trip, which made us realize the creative potential of recycling. Today, they are working as industrial designers for companies including Decathlon and Vaude, and creating furniture for the Site-Mmorial du Camp des Milles. They hope to continue their intercultural, ecological and industrial venture.

Jai d laborer un nouveau langage visuel


Linterface Pearl offre une navigation en 3D trs fluide sur les crans tlviss, une navigation dordinaire squence et rude. Pearl, prsente au plus grand salon mondial du haut dbit, le Broadband World Forum 2011, est un outil noncommercialis prsentant la performance et les capacits des dcodeurs de Technicolor ses clients, les oprateurs Tlcom. Pearl prouve aussi la facilit et la rapidit de dveloppement des interfaces 3D grce des outils propritaires accessibles. Il a fallu crer cette interface en moins dun mois pour tre prts pour le salon, ce qui est peu, et cela a t un challenge pour crer des transitions claires et intelligibles, dun menu un sous-menu par exemple. Jai d laborer un nouveau langage visuel , souligne Julien Dumail, qui a cr les crans, les animations de linterface, ensuite codes par les dveloppeurs. La 3D aide hirarchiser des informations difficiles mettre en avant dans la 2D. On peut ainsi prsenter plusieurs arbres dinformations avec certains en arrire-plan , mais plus visibles et donc plus faciles daccs quauparavant. Julien, dabord consultant pour Technicolor, y est ensuite entr pour concevoir linterface des dcodeurs. Dsormais, il cre les interfaces de tout le matriel connect de la maison (box Internet, modems, etc.), et espre continuer asseoir la vision du design dans la socit, design qui intervient encore trop tard dans llaboration dun produit .

I had to develop a new visual language


The Pearl interface allows you to surf effortlessly in 3D on TV screens, an exercise which would normally be jerky and unrefined. Pearl is a non-marketed tool which is used to demonstrate the performance and capacities of Technicolors decoders to its clients, the telecom operators. It was presented at the Broadband World Forum 2011, the worlds largest broadband event. Pearl is also a fine example of the ease and speed of 3D interface development thanks to its open proprietary tools. We had to build this interface in less than a month to be ready in time for the show, which is a very short time-scale. It was a real challenge to create clear and intelligible transitions, from a menu to a sub-menu for example. I had to develop a new visual language, explains Julien Dumail, who created the screens and the interface animations, which were then coded by the developers. The 3D helps to organize information which is difficult to represent in 2D. You can set out several trees of information with some in the background, making them more visible and therefore easier to access than before. Julien initially worked for Technicolor as a consultant, then joined the company on a permanent basis to design the interface for the decoders. Today, he creates the interfaces for all the SOHO network equipment (Internet boxes, modems, etc.), and hopes to continue shaping the companys design vision. For Julien, the design process still comes too late in the creation of a product.

En anticipant lvolution structurelle constante de ces vgtaux, jai aussi tudi leur agencement
Le projet AEA Headquarters est un toit vgtal en plein quartier du Bronx. Depuis fin 2011, au sommet dun immeuble de bureaux, des panneaux solaires fournissent de lnergie au btiment, et un jardin permettant la rcupration des eaux pluviales entoure une estrade propice la sensibilisation du public sur les nouvelles formes despaces verts urbains. Ce projet semi-public est une vitrine des toits vgtaux zro nergie en essor New York , explique lodie gonneau, qui a fait les croquis 3D du site. En quipe, elle a aussi choisi les plantes, toutes natives, qui rsistent aux intempries, absorbent leau, limitent lrosion citadine, isolent le btiment et captent le CO2. En anticipant lvolution structurelle constante de ces vgtaux, jai aussi tudi leur agencement. Jaime apporter la nature sur les toits. Dans cette petite entreprise, qulodie a intgre pour faire un stage et quelle na pas quitt depuis, designers et charpentiers/bnistes amnagent principalement des terrasses prives de New York. Aprs son BTS, elle sest tourne vers le paysage. Une licence professionnelle a donc complt son savoir-faire en conception et graphisme par la connaissance des vgtaux, avant son arrive chez Future Green Studio, New York, ville phare dans le dveloppement des infrastructures durables. Jaimerais aller plus loin, crer un projet urbain rduisant encore plus limpact de la ville sur son environnement.

The AEA headquarters project involves a green roof situated in the heart of the Bronx. Since the end of 2011, at the top of an office block, solar panels have been providing the building with energy, and a garden allowing rainwater capture surrounds an area of wooden decking designed to raise public awareness of new forms of green urban landscaping. This semi-public project is a showcase for zero energy green roofs which are experiencing a boom in New York, explains lodie gonneau, who did the 3D sketches of the site. Along with the rest of her team, she also chose the plants (all native species) which are hardy, absorb water, limit urban erosion, insulate the building and capture CO 2. Taking into account the constant structural development of this vegetation, I also studied its layout. I love bringing nature onto rooftops. In this small business which lodie joined to do a work placement and never left, the designers and carpenters/cabinetmakers work mostly on designing private balconies or patios in New York. After her 2-year vocational diploma, she moved towards landscaping. She took a degree to learn all about plants and added to her existing knowledge in design and graphics, before being taken on at Future Green Studio, New York. This city is a flagship in the development of sustainable infrastructures. Id like to go further and create an urban project that reduces the citys impact on its environment even more.

Its ergonomic design is a throwback to early models, which represents a challenge for the designer
SpareOne won an award at the worlds largest electronics tradeshow. This mobile phone, the only one of its kind to work with a single AA battery, won the Editors Choice prize of Popular Mechanics magazine at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2012. When fully charged the telephone has a battery life of up to 15 years when not in use; its an emergency phone which is very simple to use. There is no screen, its ergonomic design is a throwback to early models, which represents a challenge for the designer as consumers are used to telephones which explain everything, says Xavier Ferr, who created its user language, as well as the role and function of the keys. Having joined PSL after the concept stage, Xavier made numerous 3D versions of the product, to resolve technical problems and upgrade it; he chose the plastics and supervised the production process. As the sole designer of this small company, he was also responsible for the instructions for use and the packaging in other words, he can take full credit for the presentation of the kit. Xavier had never intended to go abroad, but he acquired a taste for it when he was working in childrens design. He subsequently left this domain to pursue his real passion, electronics, and joined PSL which, at the time, had no design input. After Hong Kong, he hopes to further his career at an international level, and to become head of creativity in a multinational company.

Le SpareOne est revenu prim du plus grand salon mondial de llectronique. Ce tlphone portable, le seul fonctionner avec une simple pile AA , a reu le prix de lEditors Choice du magazine Popular Mechanics lors de lInternational Consumer Electronics Show 2012. Avec une charge atteignant une autonomie de 15 ans si le tlphone nest pas utilis, cest un appareil durgence, trs simple dutilisation. Il ny pas dcran, son ergonomie est un retour en arrire, ce qui est un dfi pour le designer car les usagers sont habitus aux tlphones qui expliquent tout , souligne Xavier Ferr, qui a cr sa grammaire dusage, comme le rle et le fonctionnement des touches. Arriv chez PSL aprs ltape du concept, Xavier a multipli les versions 3D du produit, pour rgler les problmes techniques et le faire voluer ; il a choisi les plastiques, assur le suivi avec la production. Seul designer de cette mini-entreprise, il a aussi ralis la notice dutilisation et le packaging, un travail complet sur la prsentation du kit. Xavier, qui navait jamais envisag de partir ltranger, y a pris got grce au design pour enfants. Il a ensuite quitt ce milieu pour sa passion, llectronique : il a rejoint PSL o le design tait alors absent. Aprs Hong Kong, il espre pouvoir encore voluer linternational et tre la tte de la cration dans une multinationale.

Cest la Mixed Reality, un concept nouveau qui offre de linformation en temps rel sur les lieux alentours et permet dapprendre, sur un support interactif transportable qui nous libre les mains, comme un badge ou des lunettes, et non pas un tlphone. Jrmy Godefroid a dvelopp de A Z ce projet de recherche abouti sur la Mixed Reality. Cest un dfi, car il faut devancer ce jeune march en bullition et proposer la vision la plus mme dtre accepte ! Lcosystme unique du Japon nous aide concevoir des modes dinteractions nouveaux et compatibles avec les usagers, les diffrents supports et les services labors. Jrmy a donc enqut sur les supports et les besoins des utilisateurs locaux, cr des cas dutilisation, conu des interfaces et appliqu la vision dOrange sur ces produits. Aprs tude de faisabilit par les ingnieurs, certains sont en phases de brevetage et de prototypage. Arriv dans la socit aprs son diplme, Jrmy a d dabord tablir une stratgie de design, alors absente dans ce milieu dingnieurs. Depuis, les designs de service et dinteraction ont toute leur place dans les nouveaux projets. Une chance pour Jrmy, qui souhaite encore dvelopper son savoir-faire dans le design interactif .

You have to keep one step ahead of this exciting young market and put forward the vision most likely to be accepted!
A pair of glasses that can teach you how to play the guitar or a transparent bracelet that can tell you the height of the fairground attractions nearby these are some examples of interactive products being developed at Orange Labs Tokyo. This is Mixed Reality, a new concept which provides information about the surrounding area in real time, and displays that information on a portable interactive device in the form of a badge or glasses, and not a telephone, thus leaving your hands free. Jrmy Godefroid developed this successful research project on Mixed Reality from A to Z. Its a challenge as you have to keep one step ahead of this exciting young market and put forward the vision most likely to be accepted! Japans unique eco-system helps us to design new user-friendly modes of interaction, the different devices and the elaborate services. So Jrmy conducted a survey on devices and local user needs, created a series of use cases, designed the interfaces and applied Oranges vision to these products. After a feasibility study carried out by engineers, some of them are now in the patenting and prototyping stages. Jrmy, who joined the company straight after his Masters degree, had to begin by establishing a design strategy, which was not yet in place in this engineering-based firm. Since then, service and interaction design has played a major role in new projects: a great opportunity for Jrmy, who wishes to further develop his know-how in interaction design.

La cuisine fine sinvite dans votre jardin la place du barbecue. Grce au ServeBoy, vous y cuisinez un teppanyaki ou mme un wok tout en restant avec vos amis. Ce trolley de cuisine dextrieur haut de gamme utilise des plaques induction amovibles offrant une cuisson rapide, sre et peu nergivore. Ce qui dmarque Serveboy de ses rivaux, cest la qualit de ses matriaux durables, robustes et performants, tel le Kerrock et linox. Prsent divers salons internationaux (Maison & Objet, Singapour), il est dit dans plusieurs livres, comme Design X50 , rfrence du design flamand. Mon grand dfi tait de dessiner du mobilier haut de gamme, une premire pour moi , souligne Herv Grolier, crateur du ServeBoy. Il me fallait aussi construire deux gammes de trolleys avec un maximum de pices communes pour optimiser le ralisme industriel. Je devais galement obtenir un assemblage harmonieux de ces pices dans chacun des modles, tout en leur insufflant une forte personnalit. Herv, designer junior au dpart, responsable dun studio de design puis pdagogue, a fond Cre Art pour raliser des produits durables au service de la performance globale : environnementale, conomique et sociale . Crant, entre autres dans le mdical, le loisir et lamnagement de stands pour des clients franais et belges comme Mdiprma ou Induplus, il ambitionne de former une quipe pluridisciplinaire de design en passant de 3 8 personnes en 2015.

Making sustainable products with an exceptional overall performance: environmentally, economically and socially
The new alternative to barbecuing bring fine dining into your garden. With ServeBoy, you can cook a teppanyaki or even a stir-fry without having to abandon your friends. This top of the range outdoor cooking trolley is equipped with removable induction plates which let you cook quickly, safely and economically. What distinguishes Serveboy from its rivals is the exceptional quality of the materials used (Kerrock and stainless steel), which are long-lasting, robust and high-performance. Presented at various international shows (Maison & Objet, Singapore), it appears in several books, such as Design X50 , a reference work in Flemish design. My biggest challenge was designing high-end furniture which was a first for me, explains Herv Grolier, the creator of ServeBoy. I also had to build two ranges of trolleys with a maximum of parts in common to optimize large-scale production. I had to ensure these parts were harmoniously assembled in each of the models, while creating a striking design. Herv, who started out as a junior designer, before becoming head of a design studio then lecturer, set up Cre Art to make sustainable products with an exceptional overall performance: environmentally, economically and socially. He designs for several different fields including medical, leisure activities and trade show stands for French and Belgian clients like Mdiprma or Induplus. His ambition is to form a multi-disciplinary design team taking his business from 3 to 8 people in 2015.

Donner une deuxime vie ce produit, tout en prsentant la continuit du savoir-faire de la socit
En rditant son bureau AF75 des annes 70 , Arfo fait revivre son pass et joue la carte de la modernit. Expos au VIA fin 2011 , ce meuble est constitu 63 % dacier et dun plateau en agglomr certifi PEFC (bois provenant de forts gres durablement), cest donc un bureau recyclable par son assemblage et ses matriaux , rsume Clment Laurence, qui en a rajeuni le design. Avec lapparition des crans plats, ce meuble vintage de faible profondeur retrouve son intrt, mme pour les particuliers, et constitue donc un nouveau march potentiel pour Arfo, spcialis dans le mobilier despaces professionnels. Il fallait donner une deuxime vie ce produit, tout en prsentant la continuit des savoir-faire de la socit qui a 160 ans . Clment a donc mis aux normes lancien modle, et a d trouver des compromis entre un design moderne et les contraintes de fabrication en interne. Par exemple, nous avons cr un voile de fond bi-couleur qui rythme lensemble du bureau et lui donne plus de vie. Pour le raliser, deux plaques de mtal ont d remplacer lancienne et une fixation a t trouve avec le bureau dtudes pour rigidifier lensemble. Clment, qui a dbut avec des machines caf, des toilettes publiques, des stylos, puis du mobilier de bureau, est prt sinvestir dans tous les domaines, tant quil y a possibilit de crer des concepts innovants intgrant lergonomie, lusage et la technologie .

In relaunching their AF75 desk from the seventies, Arfo is revisiting its past whilst opting for a modern approach. Exhibited at VIA at the end of 2011 , this piece of furniture is made from 63 % steel with a desktop made of PEFC -certified chipboard (wood from sustainably managed forests). The desk can be recycled thanks to the way it is assembled and its materials, explains Clment Laurence, who modernized the design. With the advent of flat screens, this vintage desk with its shallow worktop comes into its own, even for private individuals, and thus constitutes a potential new market for Arfo who specialize in office furniture. The challenge was giving this product a second lease of life, while demonstrating the ever-present know-how of this 160 -yearold company. Clment was responsible for bringing the old model into compliance with todays safety standards, and had to strike a balance between a modern design and in-house manufacturing constraints. For example, we created a two-colour modesty panel which sets the tone for the whole desk and livens it up. To make this panel, two sheets had to be used instead of the original one, and the design office helped come up with a system for fixing them together to make it rigid. Clment, who started out designing coffee machines, public toilets, pens, then office furniture, is ready to branch out into any domain, as long as he can create innovative concepts which involve ergonomics, usability and technology.

La technicit du systme lectrique devait tre mise en uvre pour le confort de lutilisateur
Lessence du confort dun canap. Le Cambridge, prsent au salon Maison & Objet 2012 , possde un systme lectrique de dossiers relevables, rechargeable sur batteries. Finis les cbles, plus besoin dajouter un haut coussin ou de se lever pour ajuster le dossier la hauteur de sa tte, une pression sur un bouton discret tout en restant assis suffit. La technicit du systme lectrique devait tre mise en uvre pour le confort de lutilisateur , explique Julien Lebraud, en charge du design du canap. Ainsi, des mousses de haute densit attnuant la prsence de ce systme dans le dossier, et rsistant aux charges sans subir de dformation, ont t utilises. Il fallait aussi minimiser le bruit, faire en sorte quil se relve doucement. Julien a par ailleurs travaill sur lergonomie, les hauteurs de dossier et la profondeur dassise daprs les proportions du corps humain, et choisi trois tailles de canap en tenant compte des contraintes de fabrication. Julien, qui a toujours aim crer des siges, a quitt le design graphique pour terminer son BTS chez Leleu/Burov. Dans cette socit trs familiale , qui existe depuis plus de 50 ans, il a dbut comme designer. Il allie dsormais ce mtier celui complmentaire de chef de produit pour les trois marques de meubles domestiques de la socit, et espre aussi dessiner pour les grands htels et restaurants qui sous-traitent chez Leleu/Burov.

The complex electrical system had to be carefully integrated to ensure optimum user comfort
The essence of a really comfortable sofa. The Cambridge, presented at the 2012 Maison et Objet show, has an electrical system of adjustable backrests, which work with rechargeable batteries. No more cables, no need to add a cushion or to get up to adjust your backrest to the right height all you have to do is press a discreet button while you remain comfortably seated. The complex electrical system had to be carefully integrated to ensure optimum user comfort, explains Julien Lebraud, in charge of the sofas design. Thus, high-density foam was used to disguise the presence of this system in the backrest, and to withstand heavy loads without losing its shape. We also had to minimise the noise, and ensure it moved up and down gently. Julien also worked on the ergonomy, adapted the height of the backrest and the depth of the seat surface to the proportions of the human body, and chose three sizes of sofa taking into account manufacturing constraints. Julien, who has always enjoyed designing seating, abandoned graphic design to finish his vocational diploma at Leleu/Burov. He started work as a designer in this family firm, which has been in business for over 50 years. He now combines this profession with the complementary role of product manager for the companys three brands of home furniture, and also hopes to design for the big hotels and restaurants who outsource to Leleu/Burov.

Il fallait allier la taille des modules celle du hall dexposition


Dans la maison ridan, on se croirait suspendu. Les 4 modules prfabriqus qui la composent sont relis par des passerelles ltage o les lieux de vie sont installs, et insrs entre deux parois entirement vitres. Innovations dans le domaine des maisons modulaires en bois prenne qui ont rencontr un grand succs au Salon national de lhabitation de Montral 2012. Les dlais courts, 9 mois de conception/ralisation et 5 jours et demi de montage au Salon de lhabitation, ont apport une exprience pleine et des contraintes stimulantes Gwnola Le Breton, designer dintrieur : il fallait concilier la taille des modules avec celle de la halle dexposition, exploiter les matriaux des fournisseurs avec le souci dimpressionner durablement avec cette maison vitrine. Elle sest aussi enrichie du travail en quipe, notamment sur larchitecture, sur lagencement intrieur, avec la cration dune bibliothque sur mesure avec un fournisseur, et sur les dtails techniques de la fabrication. Aprs avoir touch au dessin en btiment, au design technique de cabines et la vente en dcoration dintrieur, Gwnola sest envole pour le Qubec, pays de ses rves denfant, o elle a vite trouv son poste actuel au Marquis Concept. Dans cette jeune entreprise en pleine expansion, on peut mettre des choses en place et toucher tout. Elle travaille ainsi sur les nouveaux concepts de maison, les outils de vente et des projets darchitecture intrieure, comble.

We had to adapt the size of the modules to fit the exhibition hall
The ridan house gives you a feeling of being suspended in mid-air. The 4 pre-fab modules which make up the house are connected by walkways on the first floor where the living space is situated, in between two walls made entirely of glass. These innovations were a great success at the Montreal 2012 National Home Show, in the category of modular houses made from sustainable wood. Tight deadlines plus nine months of design/creation process and five and a half days of setting-up at the home show gave interior designer, Gwnola Le Breton, a rich experience full of stimulating challenges: she had to adapt the size of the modules to fit the exhibition hall and make the best possible use of suppliers materials to ensure this glass-walled house made a lasting impression. She also used teamwork to her advantage, particularly with regard to the architecture, interior layout (a bespoke bookshelf created with a supplier) and the technical details of construction. After working in technical drawing in the building industry, the technical design of cabins and selling products for interior decorating, Gwnola fulfilled her childhood dream and jetted off to Quebec, where she soon found her current job at Marquis Concept. In this young, rapidly expanding company you can really make things happen and get involved in everything. She is now happily working on new house concepts, sales tools and interior design projects.

These Diabola glasses designed for babies from 0 -18 months are an innovation: the frame is a 2-in-1 design which adapts to little noses of all sizes! Anne-Charlotte le Grand also developed this model in a single unbreakable piece, and it is 100% recyclable. These glasses come complete with a strap and an attractive pouch a practical but fun purchase. Not only is this product high-tech and fun, it also carries a health message, as parents often overlook the importance of protecting their childrens eyesight with sunglasses. With this in mind, a prevention campaign was launched in partnership with Mustela, to draw attention to the importance of this type of health product. As the flag-ship product of the Ki ET LA brand for 0-4 year-olds, Diabola glasses are a great success, as indeed is the whole collection which saw sales jump from 780 to 2 300 after just one year on the market. This success has been backed up by a rapid expansion in international sales and the arrival of two new partners, Natalys and Vert Baudet. Ki ET LA is a young company. The brand was created in 2010 by the designer, specialised in childrens products and the glasses trade, when she was made redundant by her previous employer. Confined to drawing at her former company, Anne-Charlotte Le Grand is now fulfilling her potential working on the development of her brand and designing new products. I dream of having a big workshop where all sorts of professionals could work together, sharing their savoir-faire, experimenting and constantly looking for better and more creative ideas.

Offrant un gain de productivit denviron 30 %, ce terminal, sorti en 2011 , est pris en main en quelques heures, contre deux jours pour le prcdent modle. Il se distingue de ses concurrents par son apparence conviviale, son confort dutilisation, et la possibilit offerte de vendre des produits dmatrialiss (cartes tlphoniques, places de spectacle). En collaboration avec un ergonome, Jules Leclerc a particip la phase dtude et de conception prliminaire du produit, a ralis le design graphique de toute son interface et a assur une part de supervision du graphisme auprs des dveloppeurs. Ce qui me touche, cest que je facilite le travail de chacun et amliore son quotidien. Jules a dbut chez Usabilis en tant que consultant pour le design graphique des interfaces. Il enqute maintenant aussi en amont sur les besoins des usagers et cre le maquettage, pour des conceptions Web mobiles de consultations de comptes bancaires, des outils de recherche Web cartographique ou encore des applications iPad. Aujourdhui consultant en design et ergonomie qui participe surtout la phase de conception des projets, Jules rve de travailler sur un produit de A Z en suivant un processus damlioration continue.

I make things simpler for people and improve their quality of life
The 70 -key keyboard has fallen by the wayside! Tobacconists are now using the Altadis terminal, with its 100 % touch screen! The terminal, which came out in 2011 , provides a productivity gain of around 30 %, and takes only a few hours to master, compared with two days for the previous model. It stands out from the competition thanks to its attractive look and feel, its user-friendliness, as well as the advantage of being able to sell dematerialized products such as phone cards, concert tickets, etc. Working closely with an ergonomist, Jules Leclerc took part in the preliminary design phase of the product, created the graphic design for the whole interface and was also involved in supervising the developers who worked on the graphics. What I find amazing is that I make things simpler for people and improve their quality of life. Jules started at Usabilis as a consultant for interface graphic design. He now also conducts surveys on user needs and creates the mock-up for mobile Web designs for on-line banking, Web mapping search tools or iPad applications. Today, as a consultant in design and ergonomics involved primarily in the design phase of projects, Jules dreams of working on a product from A to Z and implementing a continuous improvement process.

Il fallait personnaliser ce produit trs froid et mcanique


Cest une petite rvolution pour les personnes mobilit rduite. Le fauteuil lectrique Storm4 et sa version x-plore ont reu le prix Janus de la Sant 2010 pour leur haute technologie et leur design global. Entre autres, le rglage possible de la hauteur de lassise renforce lautonomie et le systme de suspension quatre roues (version x-plore) amliore le confort de conduite. Ct design, il fallait personnaliser ce produit trs froid et mcanique , souligne Aurlie Minois Lauret, lorigine dun design global sur ce matriel : Au dpart, je devais seulement habiller le chssis avec des carters en plastique et dessiner des composants plus techniques comme les fixations de suspension. Jai insist pour rendre le produit plus chaleureux et fonctionnel. Elle a ainsi ajout, par exemple, des lampes LED et un sac sur le dossier, mis en couleurs le fauteuil avec des stickers et des carters interchangeables. Aprs avoir co-cr sa collection daccessoires de mode, Aurlie a t appele par Invacare, leader mondial du matriel paramdical, qui lavait repre suite son projet de fin dtudes portant sur un fauteuil roulant fminin. Vite propulse sur de grands projets en collaboration avec les dpartements R & D europens, elle participe la cration dune identit visuelle plus forte dInvacare, un pas de plus dans son souhait de diriger une quipe et davoir une vue globale sur tous les projets de design dune socit.

I had to bring a personal touch to this very cold and mechanical product
Its a minor revolution for people with limited mobility. The electric wheelchair Storm4 and its version x-plore won the Janus de la Sant 2010 prize for their technology and overall design. Its features include adjustable seat height so the user can be more in control, and a four-wheel suspension system (on the x-plore version) to improve comfort when driving. On the design front, I had to bring a personal touch to this very cold and mechanical product, explains Aurlie Minois Lauret, who was behind the overall design of this piece of equipment: Originally, I was only supposed to fit the chassis with plastic casing and design some of the more technical components such as the suspension fixings. But I insisted on making the product more comfortable as well as functional. For example, she added LED lamps and a bag to go on the back, and brightened up the wheelchair with colourful stickers and interchangeable plastic casing. After co-creating her collection of fashion accessories, Aurlie received a call from Invacare, the world leaders in paramedical equipment, who had noticed her thanks to her final degree project in which she designed a wheelchair specifically for women. She soon found herself working on big projects in collaboration with European R & D departments, and is now involved in creating a stronger visual identity for Invacare. She is one step closer to achieving her dream of leading a team and having an overview of all the design projects in a company.

Cette plaque intuitive et fonctionnelle casse les standards, un beau dfi !


Cette nouvelle plaque induction gaie les cuisines des classes moyennes de Chine. De couleur claire, ovale avec des fonctionnalits mises en avant, elle soppose aux modles concurrents carrs et noirs copiant le style high-tech, avec des boutons peu visibles , comme le souligne Adrien Nazez, qui a travaill sur ce projet. En Chine, o la plaque induction mobile est omniprsente, ce modle intuitif et fonctionnel casse les standards, un beau dfi ! . Aprs analyse du produit, du march et des usagers, lquipe de designers quAdrien encadre a propos une forme douce harmonisant lusage et lenvironnement : la zone de chauffage est sertie dun motif simple chinois sur un fond champagne, symbole de dlicatesse. Le panneau de contrle se dmarque dans langle par sa blancheur et sa simplicit. Peu technique, cet objet ne joue pas sur le high-tech mais sur le ressenti. Lusager comprend instinctivement linterface incline qui suit le geste de la main. Adrien a eu un coup de cur pour Shanghai et sy est install aprs ses tudes, o il volue entre statuts de freelance et de designer intgr en agence notamment. Il aide les marques chinoises sinternationaliser (ZTE, Haier, etc.) et les socits trangres crer des produits pour les Chinois (Nissan, Sony, etc.). Dans ce travail de recherche et de conseil, Adrien espre retrouver un quilibre entre le design industriel et la cration de linutile, qui fait du bien aux yeux .

This intuitive and practical hob is exceptional and goes beyond the design standard a great challenge!
This new induction hob brightens up the kitchens of middle class homes in China. Light-coloured and oval-shaped with clearly defined controls, its a complete contrast with the square black rival models which emulate a high-tech style, with their almost invisible buttons, explains Adrien Nazez, who worked on this project. In China, where the movable induction hob is omnipresent, this intuitive and practical hob is exceptional and goes beyond the design standard a great challenge! After analyzing the product, market and end users, a team of designers led by Adrien suggested a rounded shape that harmonizes the appliances use with its environment: the heating zone is inscribed with a simple Chinese motif on a champagne-colored background, to symbolize refinement. The control panel stands out in the corner of the hob in its whiteness and simplicity. With its very simple design, the appeal of this product is not in its high-tech features but more in the overall experience. The user instinctively understands the inclined interface which follows the hands natural movement. Adrien fell in love with Shanghai and settled there after his studies, and now juggles his activities as a freelancer and designer for an agency. He helps Chinese brands to develop internationally (ZTE, Haier, etc.) and advises foreign businesses wishing to create products for the Chinese market (Nissan, Sony, etc.). In this role of researcher and consultant, Adrien strives to find a balance between industrial design and creating objects of beauty with no practical use.

Grer les diffrentes cultures personnelles et professionnelles des intervenants


Blanche et lumineuse, cette gondole de maquillage symbolise la nouvelle identit de Lancme et se diffrencie du noir des autres marques. La marque relance ainsi son image en Chine notamment, o elle est leader dans la cosmtique de luxe. Pour Lise Picard, qui a assur le dveloppement du meuble, un des grands dfis fut de grer les diffrentes cultures personnelles et professionnelles des intervenants , savoir la direction du design de Lancme Paris, Sephora Chine qui fournit lespace de vente dans ses magasins, lquipe de visual merchandising de LOral Luxe Chine et les fournisseurs maquettistes chinois. Je devais communiquer les informations chacun en fonction de son rle : de cration, conceptuel, technique, dcisionnel, ou autre. Et comme ce meuble tait le premier prototype de ces nouvelles gondoles, les exigences de chacun ont souvent oblig modifier les dessins techniques. Lise a galement suivi la production et linstallation des 80 gondoles dans toute la Chine. Lise, designer en visual merchandising pour les marques de luxe de LOral comme Lancme, cre des prsentoirs chaque lancement de produits nouveaux, en sappuyant sur son savoir-faire en design despace dvelopp dans son entreprise prcdente. Cette amoureuse de lAsie a termin son cycle master de design en Chine, et y est revenue. Elle espre voluer chez LOral, tout en poursuivant son projet personnel de cration de marque de vtements.

Managing the different personal and professional cultures of the various participants
White and bright, this makeup display symbolizes Lancmes new identity, and stands out from the black presentation units of the other brands. The brand is relaunching its image, particularly in China where it is the leading brand in luxury cosmetics. For Lise Picard, who was responsible for developing the display unit, one of the greatest challenges was managing the different personal and professional cultures of the various participants, namely Lancmes head design team in Paris, Sephora China who provided the retail space in their shops, the visual merchandising team at LOral Luxe China and the Chinese suppliers/model-makers. I had to give the necessary information to each one according to their role: creative, design, technical, decision-making, or other. And since this unit was the first prototype of these new displays, each persons requirements often made it necessary to modify the technical drawings. Lise also supervised the production and installation of 80 display units all over China. Lise, designer in visual merchandising for LOrals luxury brands like Lancme, creates product displays for each new product launch, making good use of her spatial design know-how acquired in her previous company. A great lover of Asia, Lise finished her Masters degree in China, and later returned. She hopes to pursue her career at LOral, as well as working on her own project of developing a clothing brand.

Des pralins la fve tonka, des caramels la pointe de sel, les gourmands trouveront ces nouveaux chocolats hauts de gamme sur le jeune site en ligne de Maison Cailler. Et aux commandes, sont ajouts des kits sensoriels ddis tester le got des clients. Une dmarche scientifique et dautant plus novatrice que le design des aliments est un secteur rcent. Nous travaillons avec des analystes sensoriels, des ingnieurs, des chocolatiers entre autres , souligne Marie Piet, responsable du dpartement design. nous, les designers, dintgrer toutes les contraintes : la transmission des valeurs de la marque, le respect des rgles de scurit alimentaire, par exemple. Car Maison Cailler venait de natre, il a donc fallu dfinir la marque, son positionnement sur le march, le design de ces gourmandises, les emballages . Marie sest ainsi inspire de lhistoire et de la gographie locale pour crer le logo et dfinir les couleurs, la forme des chocolats reprenant celle du mont voisin. Marie a dabord travaill sur les lunettes, le mobilier, le graphisme, puis lalimentation chez Enivrance. Nestl (propritaire de Maison Cailler) est venu la chercher, pour travailler avec la R & D sur la glace, puis le chocolat. lavenir, Marie se voit travailler dans lalimentation, car on touche lessence de la vie, ce dont on ne peut se passer, cest stimulant de proposer de lesthtisme et du fonctionnel dans un domaine jusqualors trs norm .

Its really exciting to bring aestheticism and practicality to a domain which, until recently, was highly standardized
Soft pralines with subtle notes of tonka beans, lightly salted caramels chocolate-lovers can find these and other top quality gourmet creations on the recent website of Maison Cailler. Every order includes a sensory kit designed to put the customers taste to the test. The project is a scientific one, and all the more innovative since food design is a very recent sector. We work with sensory analysts, engineers and chocolatiers among others, emphasizes Marie Piet, head of the design department. Its up to us, the designers, to incorporate all the various requirements: for instance, ensuring that the brands values are conveyed, respecting food hygiene regulations, etc. As Maison Cailler had only just been created, we had to define the brand, its positioning on the market, the design of these gourmet chocolates and the packaging. Marie drew her inspiration from history and local geography to create the logo and define the colors, with the shape of the chocolates echoing the peaks of the neighboring mountains. Marie began her career working on eyewear, furniture, graphics, then discovered the food industry when she joined Enivrance. She was subsequently headhunted by Nestl (who owns Maison Cailler), to work with their R & D team on ice cream and later chocolate. In the future, Marie sees herself working in food, because food is the very essence of life, it is something which we cannot do without. Its really exciting to bring aestheticism and practicality to a domain which, until recently, was highly standardized.

Pour garantir son prix, il ne pouvait tre fait quavec un moule, un dfi pour optimiser ses fonctionnalits
Ce support dordinateur se vend dans les magasins Carrefour du monde entier. Produit du groupe, il se distingue par son bas prix et sa forme d avion en papier , comme lexplique son crateur, Arthur Senant. Rappel de lenfance et de la lgret, cette forme fluidifie aussi le passage de la lumire sur le support, le rendant ainsi doux au regard. Il devait aussi seffacer sous lordinateur et dans son environnement. Do sa couleur grise. Durable, il devait tre facile utiliser. Mais, pour garantir son prix, il ne pouvait tre fait quavec un moule, un dfi pour optimiser ses fonctionnalits . Aprs analyse fonctionnelle, Arthur a dtermin, entre autres, une taille optimale convenant un maximum dordinateurs portables et une inclinaison tudie pour une frappe au clavier confortable. Ces paramtres ont conditionn la forme initiale du produit, par la suite harmonise par Arthur. Il a en outre suivi le travail sur le packaging, le plus rduit possible, pour limiter son impact environnemental lors du transport . Limportance des dtails lui vient de son premier travail de designer qui portait sur le petit lectromnager. Puis lenvie de ltranger la men en Angleterre, o il aidait des particuliers concrtiser leurs ides de produits. Et enfin Hong Kong, o il gre le dpartement design des produits lectroniques de Carrefour. Son ambition ? Faire passer au maximum des valeurs environnementales dans le processus de cration industrielle.

This laptop stand is on sale in Carrefour stores all over the world. An own-label product, it stands out due to its low price and its paper aeroplane design, explains its creator, Arthur Senant. Reminiscent of childhood and lightness, the shape also affects the way light hits the stand, giving it a smooth and rounded appearance. It also needed to blend in with the computer and its environment. This explains why grey was the colour of choice. Built to last, it had to be easy to use. But to keep the price down, it had to be made using a single mould, so optimising the functions was a challenge. After the functional analysis, Arthur first determined the optimum size, which would fit as many different laptops as possible, and then carefully studied the angle of inclination to ensure a comfortable typing position. These factors influenced the initial shape of the product, which was subsequently fine tuned by Arthur. He also supervized the work on packaging, which was kept to an absolute minimum, to limit the impact on the environment during transport. His attention to detail comes from his first job as a designer of small household appliances. Then the desire to travel took him to England, where he helped people develop their ideas for new products. And finally he landed in Hong Kong, where he runs Carrefours design department for electronic products. His ambition? To put environmental values at the forefront in the industrial creation process.

Avec le logiciel 3DVIA Studio, lusager volue dans un monde virtuel, lunettes 3D sur le nez, entour de murs dcrans. Cet outil de dveloppement pour la 3D remplace le 3DVIA Virtools depuis 2010 , permettant notamment de crer des applications de meilleure qualit visuelle. Lusager ne doit pas voir la diffrence avec la ralit. Le logiciel doit tre simple daccs explique Geoffrey Subileau, qui a uvr sa cration. Pour lamliorer, il analyse les comportements humains, travaille sur la qualit des graphismes, les systmes de projection et linformatique. Cet outil est surtout utilis pour la recherche (Commissariat lEnergie Atomique) ou dans lindustrie automobile qui tudie virtuellement la viabilit des futures voitures. Depuis ses dbuts, Geoffrey mle ses deux spcialits dingnieur et de designer en interactivit, en utilisant puis en dveloppant les applications de 3DVIA Virtools, de lcole des Mines Dassault Systmes. Dsormais, il amliore seul le nouveau logiciel. Son rve : Dmocratiser davantage cette technologie rcente, que les jeux vidos et le cinma en 3D nutilisent pas encore au maximum de ses possibilits. Et rendre linformatique intelligente et transparente . Il imagine ainsi des lunettes, qui nous informeraient sur notre chemin prendre, sans que nous le demandions.

Making information technology intelligent and seamless


With 3DVIA Studio software, the user moves around in a virtual world, a pair of 3D glasses on his/her nose, surrounded by walls of screens. In 2010 , this 3D development tool replaced 3DVIA Virtools, with the added benefit of being able to create applications with a higher visual quality. The user shouldnt be able to tell the difference between reality and the software. It has to be user-friendly, explains Geoffrey Subileau, who worked on its creation. In order to make improvements to it, he analyses human behaviour and works on the quality of the graphics, projection systems and the IT development. This tool is used principally for research (Frances atomic energy commission, the CEA ), or in the car industry which conducts virtual studies on the viability of future cars. Throughout his career, from the cole des Mines to Dassault Systmes, Geoffrey has combined his two specialities of engineer and interaction designer, by using and then developing 3DVIA Virtools applications. Today, he is single-handedly developing the new software. His dream is to make this recent technology more accessible. Currently, video games and 3D cinema are not making full use of its potential. I also dream of making IT intelligent and seamless. And so he has dreamt up a pair of glasses which can direct us to our destination without even a command.
